Food was decent, a little overrated.
We Service was okay. The scallion pancakes were very good.
Be the first to ReplyVery reasonably priced for a Michelin star experience, this
Very reasonably priced for a Michelin star experience, this is a cozy and unassuming spot in the East Village that is not pretentious at all. I would describe this as American with Asian inspired influences. We had a group of 7 and shared almost everything on the menu (unfortunately they were out of the dim sum tower and we passed on the chicken and porridge but everything else), which is definitely the way to go. Stand outs were the rice and snow crab but I enjoyed the variety of items and flavors on the menu. Some of the dishes were rich so it might be hard to eat a whole portion of one on your own, but they are perfect for sharing. Service was friendly as well.

Visited Tuome on a very impromptu evening with a friend of mine and was treated to an excellent dinner filled with many great bites. Going in, I had been hesitant on visiting as the menu had very limited vegetarian options, but I was thrilled that they were able to make adjustments to the offerings and was able to try many of the dishes. The main highlights of the offerings were the deviled eggs which had a very crispy exterior paired with a very flavorful finish, one of the best bites of the dinner. The kitchen was able to make their crab pasta but vegetarian, using various herbs and spices, and was one of the better pasta dishes I have had recently. We paired the pasta with the mapo tofu side dish which was extremely flavorful and had a crispy exterior with a fluffy interior as well as the broccoli which had a great chili oil drenching the dish which was very tasty, both of which were incredible. We finished the meal with the Chinese beignets paired with a caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream which was the perfect end to the meal. One of the best desserts in the city, truly a great finish to a great meal. Tuome left a great impression, and I will definitely be back to try other dishes.
Be the first to ReplyCame here since they've won Michelin 3 years in a row.
Ambiance is okay, the service was decent. They were so kind to provide a complimentary scallion pancake appetizer which was really interesting. It tasted like an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese bagel puff. The octopus (3/5) Octopus was a bit chewy, the flavor they paired it with was a potato cream with Chinese sausage bits which was very different Lamb 3/5 This was decent but it didn't justify the price point because it lacked the Michelin flavor I was looking for. Snow crab pasta 3/5 First time having snow crab, tasted pretty fishy, so I wasn't a huge fan. The pasta was good, but I wish there was slightly more flavor/creamier. Had high expectations for this place but sad to say it does mot justify the price point.
Be the first to ReplyI recently had the pleasure of dining at a Michelin starred
I recently had the pleasure of dining at a Michelin starred restaurant for the first time, and it was truly a memorable experience. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality. Despite arriving a bit earlier than my reservation time of 9pm, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could be seated immediately due to the availability of space in the cozy establishment. The ambiance of the restaurant was nothing short of enchanting. The soft glow of warm candles bathed the intimate space in a romantic light, setting the perfect tone for the evening ahead. It felt like stepping into a secret hideaway, away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. Now, let's talk about the food. My partner and I decided to indulge in the snow crab noodles, and we also ordered the chicken with broccoli and rice as sides. Each dish was a culinary masterpiece, bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. The snow crab noodles were a delicate balance of sweet and savory, while the chicken was perfectly cooked and paired beautifully with the crisp broccoli and fluffy rice. Every bite was a delight for the senses, and it's clear that the chefs put a lot of care and attention into crafting each dish. The flavors were bold and decadent, leaving us craving for more with every bite. Overall, dining at this Michelin starred restaurant was an unforgettable experience. From the impeccable service to the exquisite food, everything exceeded my expectations. It's the perfect spot for a special occasion or a romantic date night, and I can't wait to return for another memorable meal. If you're looking for a truly exceptional dining experience, look no further than this gem of a restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyI wish I can give it 3.
5 starts but I can't justify giving it 4 for few reasons as noted below. Food: very mixed feelings about food per se which in my opinion is most important thing in a restaurant. The squash dish with seafood was amazing. Complex flavors, tasty. Just great. Octopus was very underwhelming. It wasn't very moist or tender; whipped potatoes were not tasty and somehow felt heavy while being airy. Below average dish. Just tasted flat and boring. Pig out dish was just not good. Some pieces were bearable to eat while others were just soaked in fat and not very eatable. Pork meat tasted like chopped up overcooked plain meat with no flavor profile. Sauces didn't make it much better. Side peanut noodles were very tasty though and the side of lotus rice was tasty as well. Honestly it if wasn't for sides, I would have probably send the pork back as it really wasn't good. Absolutely not Michelin caliber. Service: only mentioning it because this is a Michelin star restaurant. Wasn't bad but again not Michelin caliber. While someone was always there, it just wasn't Michelin level. For example when asked for recommendations or clarification of the menu, a very brief response was given with no effort to explain the dishes. Water glasses were refilled almost to the top with sparkling water. Just small details like that. Nothing that actually bothered me: just felt a bit unwelcoming. Overall maybe I would give it another shot but nothing to write home about. I can think of dozens other restaurant that don't have a Michelin star but are way better. Sadly another Michelin start disappointment.
Be the first to ReplyA great affordable one-star! Came in a group so was able to
A great affordable one-star! Came in a group so was able to try a bunch of dishes and the quality and service is pretty solid. The servers are very attentive and dishes come out quickly! Here's a rundown of what we got: -Complimentary scallion bites (3/5): These were complimentary so can't complain, but the bites were light and airy and came with a nice everything-seasoned ricotta. They were a bit oily for me, but was a nice touch. Appetizers -Octopus (4.5/5): Very crispy, just wish it was a bit larger -Quail (5/5): my favorite app! It was so juicy and tender, one of the best quails I have tried -Deviled Eggs (3.5/5): Great deviled egg with such a light and fluffy filling. Liked the crispy touch. Usually I don't go for deviled eggs, but this was one of the better ones I have tried. -Kabocha Squash (5/5): delicious! the squash reduction tasted like a hearty soup that warmed my soul and the pieces of seafood, especially the scallop, were so delicious! -Persimmon (3.5/5): I loved the persimmon itself, but overall was not too impressed by the salad Mains -Branzino (5/5): love love! The branzino was nice and tender and tasted so good with the chowder -Snow crab noodle (4.5/5): a decadent dish with perfectly cooked noodles. A bit heavy to eat myself entirely, but was so delicious and great for sharing. The snow crab was so delicate and yum -Pig Out (2.5/5): my least favorite tbh. The pork belly was a bit oily and not too tender, and the peanut noodles were disappointing compared to the snow crab noodle Sides -Broccoli (4/5): great! just a bit oily, but was nice having a vegetable on the side Would recommend coming here if you are looking for an affordable one-star!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic pan-Chinese restaurant located in the outer
Fantastic pan-Chinese restaurant located in the outer reaches of the East Village. Very cozy place with Hans Wegner like chairs and lots of brick and dark wood. Highlights were octopus with the airiest browned butter whipped potato, the breaded and fried- deviled eggs, and the pork belly which was cooked perfectly crispy, with most of the subcutaneous fat rendered out (why can't more restaurants do this correctly?) However, i didn't care for the accompanying noodles - they were a little undercooked for me. Chocolate hazelnut dessert was as beautiful as it was tasty. The food is really rich, so have come hungry. Great range of affordable wine options that won't break the bank. Definitely up for a return visit in the future.
Be the first to Reply(Overall: F) - Overall, despite Tuome being a Michelin one
(Overall: F) - Overall, despite Tuome being a Michelin one star restaurant, my experience was not positive. While the menu items do sound interesting in concept, I feel like there were technical inadequacies across various dishes that seem to miss the critical ideas of the original dishes before adding their own twist. To further sour the impression, while I apologize for the guests I was with that made very unreasonable requests to the kitchen, I do not appreciate receiving sassiness from the staff unnecessarily intejecting when I was attempting to resolve such situation myself. (Scallion Pancake Puff: D) - The concept of this scallion puff is interesting but I am not quite convinced this is a good concept because the beautiful layering of the pancake is no longer available; in addition, I am personally not a fan of the everything bagel and cream cheese pairing as I feel this is a bit too far away from the traditional Asian route. (Pig Out: F) - This dish is supposed to be a take on the Cantonese crispy pork I think, but I am not exactly sure whst happened to the pork meat because it tasted like they removed all the fat, shredded it, and then reconstructed it into cubes, which is bad because the best part of that original dish is the layer of crispy skin to fat to meat. Furthermore, the peanut noodles didn't really pair with this dish and was a bizarre addition. (Crab Noodles: F) - The crab noodles here were undercooked (much harder than the peanut noodles). The flavor is nice and not overpowering, but was disappointing that the dashi component was not brought forward more. (Lamb: B) The lamb was very tender and worked well with the chimichurri and puree for additional flavor. I felt that the presentational aspect was a bit lacking though, but perhaps to the fault of some borderline unreasonable requests of others within my party rather than the chef. -- Food: -1 Presentation: E Price: -1 Atmosphere: -1 Service: -2 Menu: +1 Overall: -3 F Insta/Beli: @amei_eats
Be the first to ReplyReally solid food with great service! Nothing was bad
Really solid food with great service! Nothing was bad (hence the 5 stars) but I will say it wasn't memorable. I'm surprised it has a Michelin star. But nonetheless I would recommend dining here. The beignet dessert was phenomenal - the warm beignet with the cold ice cream and the creamy luxurious caramel sauce was just delicious!

It was our first visit to Tuome in many years and we instantly remembered why we like this place so much. The great service. The ambiance that is typical East Village vibe and energy. But the food!!! It is the amazingly creative food that you must go to Tuome for. Asian meets New American meets NY food scene at its best. From the scallion "pancake" balls with ricotta and everything spice that arrive as your amuse to the Chinese "beignets" for dessert, you are in for a culinary treat. The peanutty noodles with snow crab could be one of the best noodle dishes in New York.
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely need to come back, food was surprisingly good.
We came here for my friend's birthday and usually, I don't go for fusion but this restaurant did excellent on all of the dishes we've ordered. The only one I probably wouldn't reorder is the sticky rice as that's something we can get somewhere else but all other 4-5 dishes were unique.
Be the first to ReplyTuome is such a gem.
I love everything about this type of restaurant - amazing food, great service, exciting wine list, cozy vibes.Really enjoyed the amuse bouche of scallion pancake balls with some type of everything seasoning. We then shared a special of fried oysters with caviar. The deviled eggs were perfect - crispy without being heavy, with excellent flavors. The fluke tartare was very enjoyable. The chicken main course was a delight. The chicken is served 2 ways - fried chicken thigh that's fried so elegantly, and roasted chicken breast that is cooked to absolute perfection. The chicken is served over what they describe as a sort of sticky rice risotto - so creative and delicious. The wagyu beef main course was successful too, perfectly cooked. Both main courses were big portions. For dessert we shared the donut type dessert - beignet type buns that you open up and create an ice cream sandwich. The dough was perfect, not overly sweet, and everything worked well together.I had been to Tuome ~6 years ago and remember being impressed, and my impression still holds true. Such a great restaurant, highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyIt was not packed at all for a Michelin star restaurant,
It was not packed at all for a Michelin star restaurant, but it was also a random weekday evening. I couldn't really remember how the ambiance was. The service was interesting. Our waitress was helpful with making suggestions. But we all thought that the service was rather quick at clearing the plates off our table. Like excuse me, I would like to dip more of this lovely food in the sauce please, but it was gone within seconds. We started our meal with the complimentary sesame bread followed by our apps of deviled eggs, persimmon and octopus. They were very good. For the entrees, the snow crab and the pig out were good! The wagyu was not bad but not our favorite. We also liked our sides of rice and broccoli. But I didn't think the sticky rice was anything special from the ones I've had at our nearby dim sum places. The dessert of the fried buns with ice cream was good except when you have the ice cream on its own, the goat milk taste was overpowering.I think maybe worth it to come try once but I don't think there was anything on the menu that will make me come back again or inspire me to come again if their menu changes.

As an fyi if you're like me and like to know if a place has anything you'd eat, the menu online and dining in were not the same. With no indication it was a special menu for v-day (which was not the date I dined there) or restaurant week. I ordered the pig out which is just meat on a slab with nothing more than mild flavored noodles and a salad that was beyond citrusy to accompany it. After one flavorless chunk I was over it. For the steep price of that is served I would at least appreciate flavor. The meat tasted like pork and nothing more. Not like the droplet of sauce nor of any semblance of seasoning. The Octopus, although on the cusp of being over cooked it was still tender enough to enjoy. I especially liked the flavors of everything on the plate and the potato foam accompaniment. I would've liked that to have been more stable or as a puree instead. The fluke tartar, my glass of corse calvi and the servers/service were the highlight of my dining experience. Overall this is a once and done kind of spot that isn't worth trekking out for.

Came here for a birthday celebration with four other friends. Since we had enough people, we ordered pretty much everything on the menu except for the Wagyu beef and the brussel sprouts. The food was SO AMAZING. Every dish, from the apps, to the sides, to the mains, is so flavorful and rich in texture. For the apps, i recommend the fluke tartare and the apricot. Both are very refreshing and fun to eat. For the side dishes, the broccoli and the rice are to die for. The rice was made with sticky rice wrapped in some leaves which reminds me of zong zi. For the mains, the pig out and the blue crab noodle are must-trys. The peanut butter noodle that came with the pig out is so rich in flavor I'd have that for my main dish. The food absolutely deserves a five-star rating. But for a restaurant that has one Michelin star and at this price, I expected better service. The service staff that brought our food were quite friendly and enthusiastic about the dishes but the staff that changed our plates and took our orders could be more friendly and attentive.
Be the first to ReplyTuome was decent but I'm really surprised that it's so
Tuome was decent but I'm really surprised that it's so highly rated on Yelp and by other food review sites. The devil eggs were okay but nothing special. The fluke tartare was good but the portion was way too small, even for an appetizer. The Pig Out was somewhat of a disappointment if you ever had real suckling pig or even just really good Chinese "roast pig" (which is only $16 per pound in any Chinatown by the way). The Pig Out tasted like a "deconstructed" pork belly because the texture tasted like pulled pork - as if they shredded the pork belly and then reassembled. The Brussels sprouts was probably thing out of everything I order. I'm glad I tried Tuome but would probably not go back again.
Be the first to ReplyLoved this place, the food and the environment.
We ordered a bunch of plates and shared, it was perfect. 10/10 would recommend !
Be the first to ReplyThis was my top meal of 2022.
I didn't know what to expect when I made a reservation for a friend who was visiting but I was blown away with every bite.We had:-complimentary scallion pancake puff with ricotta/ everything bagel seasoning-octopus (recommended by our server)- crispy devil-fluke/ avocado tartare - pig out for 2- chinese beignets Woah, I'm not kidding I left this restaurant speechless because of how good every bite was. This is the type of place where every single thing put on the plate is intentional. When I say every forkful blew me away, I mean it.The scallion pancake puff was a great way to start the meal. Totally delicious and not overly oily. The fluke and avocado tartare was unlike anything I've had before. It was fresh and light on the tastebuds, paired with the crisp, it is a match made in heaven. The crispy egg is an absolute home run on the textures and has the perfect amount of spice with the chili oil.The pig out is delicious and very filling. We had a lot to eat and I wish I could have ingested more of this delicious dish. The best bite is when it's all piled together in one bite (with the hot sauce and noodles). The octopus really had me on the floor. I am so glad we decided to get this dish after our server recommended it. I'm not the biggest fan of octopus normally but Tuome showed me how it should taste if it is cooked correctly. Quite possibly my favorite bite of this meal. The Chinese beignets were the perfect way to end the meal. The red bean paste is delicious and I love their homemade sauce on the side.Interior is minimal, they really give you a sense that it is all about the food here.Service was standout. If you have the opportunity to come here, jump on it because you absolutely will not be disappointed.5/5

The presentation of dishes are good! Loved all the appetizers we ordered. Only thing is I personally am not a big fan of the pasta, it was a bit salty for me. Other than that it's a great restaurant and worth a try!

I've been wanting to try this place specifically for the Pig Out, and it was everything I envisioned it to be! The place is pretty small so I'd recommend making reservations in advance. They open at 6PM and by the time we finished eating, the restaurant was pretty full. Sadly they don't have a full bar, all their cocktails are soju/wine based, and they have wine, beer and sake. To start we got the Fluke and the Snow Crab Noodle. Both were so flavorful and presentation of everything was beautiful! The complimentary bread balls they gave were so unique as well! Definitely get the Pig Out when coming here. The pork was so crispy on top, and the meat was so tender! It also comes with a peanut butter schezuan noodle as well as a small salad. Definitely keep them in mind for your next date night!
Be the first to ReplyHands-down was the BEST wagyu beef I've ever had!!!! 5/5
Hands-down was the BEST wagyu beef I've ever had!!!! 5/5 stars on that course- wagyu beef with jus, maitake, and white truffle espuma. The beef was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was so tender you could cut it with a butter knife; the espuma had the perfect texture and was PACKED with flavor. The bread served as an appetizer was fresh and flakey, I really enjoyed it. I also ordered the crispy (fried) deviled eggs with chile- I thought they were OK. Good flavors but the texture of the fried part of the egg just threw me off. For dessert I ordered the Chinese beignets that came with a caramel syrup, ice cream, and yuzu jam- that they insist you make an ice cream sandwich out of.Overall, the food was tasty (the main dish was my absolute favorite), and reasonably priced. The atmosphere was cute, cozy, and very clean, but I found the tables to be too close together (simply separated by a clear divider), not making for much personal space. I would definitely return here- would love to try the snow crab noodles that everyone raves about!
Be the first to ReplyTuome is definitely one of the most unassuming one-stars
Tuome is definitely one of the most unassuming one-stars I've ever been to. The picture in the guidebook looks pretty ordinary, and the street which the restaurant is located is even less conspicuous... Decided to go on a whim. When we got to the intersection, I looked in the direction of the restaurant and there was no one on the road. Really doubted if the restaurant was located here. It was early workday evening so we got seated without a reservation. Two of us basically ordered everything we wanted; the menu was quite small, I guess I could get through it in two visits. A complimentary appetizer came first. I knew the chef has a Chinese tie, but scallion pancakes, what a surprise! It's nothing special, oily and fragrant, crispy and slightly chewy, like any other scallion pancake, yet it feels so home-coming. The cottage cheese spread on the side...meh...not a good match. Octopus, deep fried and served with potato foam and pork XO sauce. The XO sauce was amazing, it tastes like XO but you know it's not your average XO at all Deviled egg, restaurant's signature, simply a traditional deviled egg plus a twist of deep-fried egg white that gives an extra layer of crispness. The finishing touch, the fragrant red chili oil, was genius!! Its aroma instantly brings me back to China Squab, soy sauce and shiso. Heavy on sweetness, seasoned as if was braised. Deboned already, very tender and juicy. The sweetness of the soy sauce was well tempered by the freshness of shiso... as for the potato foam...didn't make sense at all.... For main courses we ordered the signature snow crab noodles and the wagyu beef. The noodle was yet the biggest surprise. Simply replacing the lobster with crab meat and the E-fu Noodles with pasta from the famous Cantonese dish Lobster with Cheese and E-fu Noodles in Superior Soup, you get the dish! I didn't have the chance to have Lobster with Cheese when I went to California, so yes I had emotional points for this dish. To be fair, the crab somewhat overcooked, but anyways, with the cheese sauce, I could have eaten two bowls of that noodle! The beef was less attractive to me by then. It was still delicious of course. Nonetheless I didn't quite understand the dish. The whole concept and technique of it was very western, not in keeping with the rest of the menu; and foam/potato was on its third appearance by now, so naturally one gets bored with it. At $75 per person, it was fair enough(good value for one michelin star? maybe). Considering the dishes are slightly ill-conceived, i would say it's probably a Michelin plate in Shanghai at best, but in New York, where there isn't even an upscale Chinese restaurant, as a rare Chinese/Western fusion, fine I'll take it. It's kinda one of those restaurants that if it wasn't this close, there definitely wouldn't be a second time (but for the noodle, hell yeah!)
Be the first to ReplyHaving dinner here with my friend's birthday Great
Having dinner here with my friend's birthday Great cocktails, interesting fusion dishes, a nice choice for date or hangout with small group of friend. Of course the sesame bread (fried bread with sesame source) is very impressive to kick off the meal! We had devil's egg, very creaming and fresh. The other one we had is fluke, perfect match with tartare and chips. Crab paste and wagyu (not A5) for main dishes, the only thing not perfect just the paste is little firm. Dessert is a popular dish in Asia, fired bun and ice cream ( ice cream is the best). The only downside is the seats are tiny for man.
