A Sydney institution
The best Austrian restaurant in town. Their schnitzels (veal or chicken) are huge and always tasty. Great value and lovely decor. Always love coming here.

Unaโs is a great place. The food is delicious and the beers are tasty. Really good Austrian food. The restaurant is top notch.

Nice place for dinner. Enjoyed the chicken schnitzel, vienna schnitzel, kassler, goulash with spatzle, sirloin steak and veal scallopini.

I had heard you could split a Schnitzel between 2, but mine was ridiculous. You could have fed 4 lumberjacks with the serving I got. Huge serving of rosti and slaw as well. Everything perfectly cooked, chicken as tender as can be. I'm sick of restaurants where you order 7 courses and are still hungry afterwards. Unas is the best value for money in Australia. Great servings, great quality, great staff. What more could you ask for ? Oh yeah, the great strudel too.

No greeting. We wondered in. Tall, old guy came after us and told us to sit at the window or in the dark at the rear. We responded with "we want to sit here, is that ok?" Response was "Really, I want to put you outside". This after 35 years. We left never to return.

The Unas Restaurant worst the waitress for the customers on the meals. The waitress was very rudely and completely mannered to customers.

I came here for lunch this week after a nearby appointment. This was my first time in many years. I use to live locally and this was a regular favourite place to come to with friends for a weekly dinner. So went in with a bit of excitement mixed with nostalgia. Being a late lunch after 2pm it was quiet but the service was super friendly and excellent, the menu items also all looked familiar. I went with an old favourite a veal Jager Schnitzel with mushroom sauce and potato rosti. The serving was huge! I honestly could not finish it. The Schnitzel was a little dry but still acceptable, the rosti and mushroom sauce were excellent and sure brought back memories. The prices have obviously increased as it must be at least 20 years since I last ate here, but for the size of the dishes it is still very fair. I would definitely consider eating here again and trying one of the other dishes next time. It is great to see that they are still open. I do love the old decor and especially the hand painted floral chairs. Well worth a visit, especially with a group of friends.

When a restaurant has been operating for over 50 years they must be doing something right. Love the simplicity of Unaโs; why fix what isnโt broken? Always a great night, with a great atmosphere in a fab location sitting outside watching the world go by, and always the chicken schnitzel for me.

Great food, good wine and if you sit by the very large opening onto the street, you get to enjoy the entertainment of the various examples of humankind as they wander past in various states of disarray! A must for people watchers who like good food....oh, and a warning....the tomato sauce on the spaghetti is so good that it has a mind of it's own and throws itself all over you clothing!!!

We have been an on and off customer at Una's for many years. It is a local favourite and one which I would always give at least 3 to 4 stars, basic honest food. Things have changed over the years. Prices have increased and now a Schnitzel is getting near $30 which is on the high side for a pub staple. What we really didn't like was their bad service, we ordered their Gypsy Schnitzel which comes with sauce, we asked for the sauce on the side and were then told if they didn't pour it onto the food there was an extra charge. Really ridiculous, we are not asking for extra sauce or anything other than not to pour it over the food. Pathetic, this was once a worthy basic restaurant but now far from it.

Una's is a hugely popular institution in Darlinghurst, and the schnitzels are authentic, delicious and HUGE! A great casual place to enjoy a meal and a beer with friendly staff and a relaxed and fun vibe.
Be the first to ReplySmiling staff deliver HUGE meals.
I visited a friend at a nearby hospital and with the aid of a wheelchair and oxygen bottle searched for a nearby eatery. We sat outside and studied the menu. We were alarmed at the size of the meals delivered to a neighbouring table but were assured by staff and regular clients a 'share plate' was cheerfully available. The attentive staff cheerfully acquiesced to our every request and we ordered some items that were not on the menu. A pleasant experience on a sunny day in Sydney.
Be the first to ReplySchnitzels the Size of Your Head
Una's has been around for decades and is something of a Darlinghurst institution. The food is home-style Austrian/German cooking so the menu is dominated by schnitzels, pork, rosti and cabbage. Servings are huge (really huge) and are heavy dishes. The pork knuckle was almost the size of a football and was really delicious - juicy and tender like pulled pork. The Gypsy Schnitzel was the size of my head. There is no way known that I can eat it all but you can always give it your best shot and they are happy to give you a โdoggy bagโ to take home when you finally wave the white flag and admit defeat. It is worth noting that you cannot book ahead. This is normally OK but it's a bit frustrating when you have a group. Whilst they won't change the no-booking rule, they did advise us to get there before 7pm to have a good chance of getting a table straight away. We got there about 6:45pm and sure enough, we were seated immediately so that was a helpful tip. It is worth noting that Gelato Messina is right across the road and is always a good place to go to for dessert.
