Una's is a Kings Cross staple for large portions with mid prices. The food is solid but nothing to write home about. The atmosphere is casual and conducive to the "hey wanna grab dinner tonight" w/ blasé vibe. Came here with a large group that was accommodated for and had a solid time.

I have been going this restaurant for at least 40 years on and off. And it was always the best. The atmosphere, the staff. Una's was known for their over generous sized Jaegar schnitzels, either chicken or veal. With Covid and all, I had not visited Una's for around 12 months. What's happened? Has it changed hands? I went their a few days ago and ordered some take away. Yes a Veal Jager Schnitzel. It cost $24.00 I took home my take out and opened the container. The whole serving was tiny and quite frankly unpalatable. I binned the contents and didn't think much of it, I just thought maybe they were having a bad day and forgot about it. A few days later I decided to go to my favourite Una's as I remember it and get some take out. I rang and made my order. I sort if joked which the female on the phone and told her about what I got last time. She was polite and said she would make sure it wasn't going to be the same experience. "She would make sure" So I went and picked my order up. Some how now it costs $25.40 , I sad nothing just paid and left. I arrived home and opened this pathetically presented poor excuse of a hearty meal.Have a look at the images of this miserable dried up crumbed piece of topside. Does it look anything like the Schitzels in their website? The images in the website is what you used to get. But not anymore. Not this crumbed mean serving of a tough peice of topside being palmed off as veal. Not to mention the miserable serving of the half cooked potato and tea spoon of coleslaw. The meat was tough like an old shoe, the potato was browned on the top and raw underneath, and the rest was was such a miserable amount its not worth mentioning. This too ended up in the garbage bin. Who ever is running Una's has ruined such a great place that has been a part of Sydney for as long as I can remember. Hope your profit margin is well worth it by being cheap and miserable. I noticed there was no Chef in the kitchen just a bunch of one menu trained fast food cooks. You have lost me and I am sure many others as on both occasions one on a Friday night the place was almost empty, when once Una's used to be pumping 7 days a week. I rate this destruction 1 out of ten. I would not recommend this restaurant in fear that people would think I have no taste buds. To the owners put some professional cooks back in the kitchen who understand food with a passion.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time.
Traveling from the US and this one hit the spot.
Be the first to ReplyFood was decent but the service wasn't the best.
My wife and I only ate half of our huge portions and the owner came over and took the leftovers away but we never saw them again despite asking for them to takeaway. He was also kind of an asshole but that is neither here nor there. The food was still pretty good.

Ordered the chicken schnitzel, was disappointed by the quality given the cost of $20 with minimal sides to accompany the dish. Service was good and a nice selection of reasonably priced beers at $4.50 per pint. If I came again, I would just get drinks and sit by the window to people watch.
Be the first to ReplyI found the food here to be pretty bland.
It seems to be pretty popular with backpackers due to the relatively cheap prices. I wouldn't recommend this place.
Be the first to ReplyQuick service and huge portions.
This is comfort food at its best. The schnitzels can be shared between 2, just get some extra rosti!

Made an order on deliveroo and it arrived with a cooked cockroach. Appalling that this still happens in Sydney - this place should be immediately shut down.

Was charged for a drink I didn't want, the staff were rude and made my wife and I feel very unwelcome. Would not recommend.

It doesn't get much more authentic then this German and Austrian restaurant in Darlinghurst from the hand paintings on your chair, the tiles on the floor and the schnitzels on your plate. The servings at this place are huge and delicious. Starters include dishes such as pea and ham soup, crumbed mushrooms and deep fried Camembert (yes deep fried Camembert). Prices are reasonable especially considering the size! You just can't go past the Vienna schnitzel with potato rosti and of course their schnapps.
