Good food but pricey
Great taste , good food, good service but felt little bit overpriced and mandatory 20% gratuity made it bit too more expensive than it should be.

We, which included three generations, were there for some Ethiopian food which I was missing post COVID 19. Of course, I and my wife had my favourite Njera with a Shiro Wot as an add on while the non vegetarians in the group opted for other Ethiopian delicacies. The food was just like what I had at Addis Ababa or Adama in Ethiopia. The restaurant is a bit crowded and that could be considered a limitation. Same with the parking space outside. The wait staff was stunned by my thanking her in Amharic. It was an unexpected surprise for her.

We had taken family to the restaurant and the vegetarian food was simple, homely, and not oily. There was a generous amount of Injera provided and the dishes were soft on the stomach!

Very inexpensive place with delicious and healthy food. Love this kind of cuisine, too bad not too many people are aware of Ethiopian food. Highly recommend this restaurant although I recently discovered a better place named Leyou Ethiopian located in San Jose. Certainly want to visit again next time I am nearby.

The food is really flavorful especially to us Indians. They serve unlimited Injeras. We have to order the curry. The vegans have the option of a sampling platter too. We cannot reserve a table. Its first come first serve and it can get inconvenient on weekends.

Have been to other Ethiopian restaurants and this small one was really good. Place was clean and even when busy food came out quickly. Friendly staff. We did the family style platter yum. Loved the injera bread. They also have a gluten free version.

Walia is my favorite Ethiopian restaurant in San Jose. We got the platter, which is more than enough to feed three people.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Ethiopian Food
The food was excellent- we ordered lamb and vegetables. We ordered the lentil sambussa and it had a lot of lentils and prepared well. The restaurant was busy and we had a 20 minute wait - worth the wait. The staff was efficient for a busy restaurant. The Ethiopian beer was very good.

My favorite restaurant in the South Bay! The twin brothers that work here are always friendly. We come here once a week and always bring our friends here to try a new cuisine. It’s very reasonably priced and huge portions! Dishes of choice: 1) Doro Wat - Chicken drum stick with hard boiled egg soaked in the most flavorful sauce. Very addictive! 2) Kitfo - I prefer my kitfo rare. It’s a beef tartar cooked in a Ethiopian butter and spices. 3) Ayeb - Ethiopian cheese, similar to cottage cheese. Pairs great with any of their dishes 4) Lentil Sambusa - Great crispy starters, you can order just one as well. Dip it with their spicy sauce for an extra punch. 5) Cabbage veggie side - My favorite veggie side dish. Simple but seasoned nicely. 6) Honey Wine - Great to pair with spiced foods 7) Ethiopian Tea - Spiced tea, ginger and cardamon flavored.

Having had a not so pleasant experience with Ethiopian cuisine before, I am happy to say that I was blown away by the flavors at Walia. The restaurant has about a dozen table, not very big and expect to wait in line if you come after 6pm on a weekend We ordered 2 doro sambusa and a lamb platter to share. The sambusas were perfectly crispy, the seasoning was mouthwatering delicious. I could sit there and eat that all day. The injera which came with the platter were soft, nutty and perfect for eating all the yummy stewed components with. I particularly enjoyed the collard greens and red lentils. Absolutely scrumptious. It has been 2 days since I have had my meal at Walia and I already am craving for it, and I want to bring everyone i know to this place!
