I thought.
..totally overhyped and overpriced. The space was packed, which may have led to a misunderstanding with our table. We got there early and checked in, yet we had to wait until they realized that our table was available. From there, the service was much better until they gave me the wrong dish. They realized that I was given the wrong dish...when I told them and then shortly after I got my salmon. The dish was small and was OK. The side order of brussels sprouts were very good. I just don't think I would go back for a mediocre experience, service and food.

The oysters were delicious and so was was the pasta with golden chanterelles. However, I spend $40 on tagliatelle and they only give me 3 pieces of mushrooms in the whole dish? Would not go back. Terrible value :/. Service was great, etc etc but not worth the cost.
Be the first to ReplyGreat, friendly service, and lovely ambiance, but food
Great, friendly service, and lovely ambiance, but food needs work these days. For instance, Eggs Benedict should not taste overwhelmingly of vinegar (mine did) and the salads could be fresher. I'll still return, though, because of the friendly staff and because I'm hoping my recent experience is just evidence of working out some post-pandemic kinks.
Be the first to ReplyMy girlfriend and I were looking to get a bite to eat
My girlfriend and I were looking to get a bite to eat before starting our day of exploring San Francisco, and she found the Wayfare Tavern on Yelp. We are so glad we stopped in. The ambience is like and old-school tavern, with polished wood and brass, as well as a maitre'd to greet you. We took seats at the bar, and were very impressed with the list of beers they had on tap. I had the Love Hazy NE IPA from Almanac, which went wonderfully with the turkey avocado club sandwich I ordered. My girlfriend ordered the Evening Whispers Belgian dubbel from Laughing Monk to go with her fried chicken sandwich. The bartender was very friendly, patient and knew much about the beers. As we sat down, we were served fresh, puffy bread that practically melted in my mouth. There were also individual bowls of kettle-cooked potato chips that were made onsite. Once we tried our respective sandwiches, we decided to trade each other half a sandwich so we could enjoy both. To call their chicken sandwich a "chicken sandwich" really didn't do it justice. It was tender, juicy, and served on a delicious ciabatta bun with fennel slaw and a perfect aioli. It was a delicious and refreshing way to start our day. I'm so glad we found this place!
Be the first to ReplyMe and two of my closest friends met up for dinner here.
Let me say - this is just a staple in my restaurant rotation in San Francisco. Oysters, Tuna, Steaks, Chicken, Burgers. Can't go wrong.
Be the first to ReplyWayfare is a great dining experience.
Classy but not too fussy. You can come and get great fried chicken. Or for a big celebration (and get great fried chicken). Also hits a very good price point. Nice sized portions. Very good staff. Everything tasted good. Few surprises - just good food, white tablecloths and a fine dining experience.

Came here for dinner before a show and was nothing short of impressed. The staff, atmosphere, and food were all amazing. I got the burger and my wife got the pasta. We started with the tuna tartare and cauliflower, and also had some mixed drinks. Can't wait to come back.
Be the first to ReplyLet's talk Deviled Eggs.
Two of us ate here on a business trip. We ordered the Deviled Eggs as an appetizer. First of all, there are 6. They are also pretty loaded. They stack the yolk "mixture" pretty high. Which is usually great, I do enjoy a good sized serving. But for the 2 of us it was too much. You can definitely taste the truffle oil. Which I enjoyed at first but then felt it was too much. I honestly prefer more of a mustard flavor. Which this had a light mustard flavor, but the truffle oil flavor was a little overpowering. So if you have a table of 4, want something different, and a little decadent then you will like these. But I would have stopped after 1 and then politely passed so the others at your table can indulge. You will need the room for the main serving.

I was a little down because of the rain but Wayfare picked me up. The hostess, Carolina , the perfect greeter. Wade D., awesome service very attentive-we thank you! This place is well thought out. Burgers were perfect. Fried Chicken was just a tad dry but who can complain about the pairing with that batter-not greesy at all! We should have ordered a few sides to complement the dishes. Seared tuna salad, perfect. (Wade D., I promise to return a better customer, I was real tired, ready for bed after a long flight. You were on-it!) You definitely have an awesome spot & I will be back mid afternoon for that meal & wine soon! Epic, would suggest going to. Btw. The chocolate cake & donuts; I was going to buy a dozen of them things. Next stop: the Dessert store on Union Square-same owner.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food.
Went with a group and everything we got was good. The pork chop and the beef check stroganoff was amazing. The fried chicken and the devil eggs were good, but not the best. The service was also pretty good.Great place for a small party, but not good for kids or a party of more than 4

Really intimate atmosphere with options for outdoor and indoor seating. Both are good. There's limited seating indoors but options at a chefs bar or a traditional bar. I had a burger, fries and Mac n cheese. The prices were very San Francisco. The service was friendly and attentive. The Mac and cheese left a little to be desired. I returned and had chicken that was also pretty good. I'd definitely return

We braved the rain to make the trek to Wayfare Tavern for the famous Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Tavern Burger. Both were good, as were the luscious Mac and cheese, oysters, deviled eggs and popovers. Service was attentive and quick. Beautiful restaurant with a cozy atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyI think this place is well known for its fried chicken.
I mean it's really good. The menu is pretty small but I prefer it that's way. The service is great. Didn't really like the table in the back.
Be the first to ReplyPopular upscale tavern with great food and service.
Plenty of room upstairs but make a reservation as it can get crowded.
Be the first to ReplyThe ambience and service are fantastic.
I can't say enough about our server, he took amazing care of us. I had super high hopes for the food but everything was very under seasoned. We had the burrata toast, deviled eggs, fried chicken, Mac n cheese, burrata whipped potatoes and green beans and all but the last 2 were pretty bland.
Be the first to ReplyGood food, ambiance, and waitstaff.
However in my opinion the fried chicken didn't live up to the expectations people set when the place was recommended. Don't get me wrong it certainly wasn't bad but I thought the burrata mashed potatoes were better comparatively. There are places in the east bay that have better fried chicken at a fraction of the cost.

In town for a work trip and we wanted to find something close to our hotel. That was really delicious and we landed on this place. I love the vibe inside with the dark navy walls. It looks very much like a speakeasy sort of vibe. The nice hostess told us that they were no tables available without a reservation, totally fine since there were some seats at the bar and that was a great vibe. The bartender and his bar backs were really attentive. We started out with some wine, and then tried some of the oysters, the shakshuka deviled eggs, split the burger and had the Barada mashed potatoes. Everything was a 10 out of 10, including the complementary popovers with the salty butter that everybody gets. The only thing that we didn't really like where the burrata potatoes, I didn't really taste any burrata in there. It didn't really matter because we had plenty of food. I really liked this place, staff was great. Food was awesome.

Definitely best I've had in SF

Wanted to give high praise to the ambiance, food, and most of all the service. We were quite pleased with the attention paid to us by Ginger, a member of the staff. Deviled EggsPork ChopSalmonChocolate Cake
Be the first to ReplyWent to Wayfare for an event so we had the private room.
The place is lovely- definitely old school tavern vibes and the private room is on the 3rd floor so it's very private and ambient. The food leaves a lot to be desired though. Expected so much more but nothing was mind blowing. Some were just fine, some were bad. Didn't get to take photos of everything but we got these:1. Popover: crisp on the outside. Pretty good2. Butter lettuce salad: just straight up butter lettuce with some dressing, oranges, and radishes - most underwhelming salad of all time. At least put some effort into this. Skip this3. Shakshuka deviled eggs: eh it was fine, definitely not worthy to have the word "shakshuka" in front of it. Underwhelming4. Fried chicken: had high expectations for this since Wayfare is famous for this. I opted for a thigh and couldn't even finish one piece. Dry af. Honestly, you can get better fried chicken at a fast food joint. 5. Pumpkin tortellini: this was alright. The cheese probably made it better and the chunks of pumpkin. Pasta wasn't very Al Dente, but this was probably one of the more edible dishes 6. Mac and cheese: very silky and saucy but not very cheesy. The pumpkin tortellini tasted more of cheese than this. More cream vs anything. Good level of sauciness and not dry but not much to offer in taste. 7. Broccolini: I mean, it's broccolini with garlic. Nothing special but gotta get some greens in8. Crème brûlée: usually not a big fan but this was decent and standard. Not bad9. Opera cake: coffee, chocolate layers. Not bad: this was alright. Overall, Wayfare is underwhelming at best. Good ambience but the food was not. Maybe it's better if you get stuff a la carte. For group bookings in the private room though, kinda meh and lackluster.

I was on my own for dinner while traveling for work and a local colleague recommended this place. Although it was very crowded on a rainy Monday evening, I was able to get seated at the bar right away. Well, it wasn't actually the bar...it was a bar-like counter that looked into the kitchen, but on that particular evening I really didn't care. Also, the stools were bolted to the ground so I felt like I was kind of far from the counter, but not a huge deal. This place gives you the vibe that it's been on that corner for decades - I have no idea if that's the case, but I liked it.I had been craving a burger, so I immediately gravitated to the Tavern Burger. The server told me it was outstanding and he was right! He also recommended the deviled eggs as a starter, so I I ordered those. I really liked them too, but I wish he would have warned me how many there were...definitely more than I needed! Also, my starter didn't come out until after my burger had arrived, which was kind of weird, although the burger came out freaky fast.

Actually the 3 best things about Wayfare now days are: they are open on Sunday for a nice location to have a family lunch, the restaurant is like a throw-back decor from London and very comfortable, and the popovers are amazing!!! However, I think the food has gone down hill. We had the $29 burger and chicken and waffles. The burger was just ok and almost like a slider on steroids and the chicken and waffle was almost un-eatable. This chicken lacked any meat and the waffle felt like it came from a frozen isle of the grocery store. I really wish I could rate them higher and maybe they had an off day, but our dinning experience was very sub-par (except the popover).
Be the first to ReplyIf you're looking for a classic American dining experience
If you're looking for a classic American dining experience with a modern twist, Wayfare Tavern is definitely worth checking out. The atmosphere is elegant and upscale, yet still manages to maintain a laid-back vibe that makes you feel right at home. The restaurant is housed in a historic building, complete with brick walls, hardwood floors, and vintage light fixtures that give it a unique charm. The menu at Wayfare Tavern is full of delicious, high-quality dishes that are sure to satisfy your taste buds. The fried chicken is a must-try - it's crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and seasoned to perfection. The steak tartare is another standout dish, with its fresh, bold flavors and tender beef. And if you're in the mood for seafood, the oysters and lobster rolls are both excellent choices. And make sure to leave room for the delicious popovers that they bring around. Whether you're looking for a romantic night out or a fun evening with friends, this restaurant is a great choice. Just be sure to make a reservation ahead of time, as it can get pretty busy on weekends.

On a chilly day, my friend and I stumbled upon this restaurant and we were delighted by its inviting atmosphere and great reviews. We were quickly seated by a host, who unfortunately let us know that she needed the table by 5 pm. Well, I wasn't planning to spend the whole evening but I wasn't planning to watch the clock to make sure i eat fast enough. That was a bit of a letdown - disappointment #1.To warm up on a cold day, we decided to order soup and the Shakshuka deviled eggs. While we were hoping for a hot and flavorful Shakshuka dish, we received a cold deviled egg appetizer instead. This was a bit of a surprise, yes we should've clarified the dish before ordering. I want to stress the word shakshuka - usually served in a mediterranean places and served hot. - disappointment #2 The soup, unfortunately, was extremely watery and lacking in flavor. This was a bit disappointing as we were hoping for a warm and comforting dish - disappointment #3As we finished our appetizers, we eagerly awaited the arrival of our salad with cooked salmon. Although we didn't receive any updates from our waiter, the salad eventually arrived - but the salmon was still uncooked inside. This was a bit frustrating, but we tried not to let it ruin our overall dining experience - disappointment #4We appreciated the welcoming atmosphere and friendly service at this restaurant
