This is one of local boutique bar & restaurants in Oakland.
This restaurant offers a tantalizing array of delicious dishes that are sure to satisfy any taste. The food quality is consistently great, with each dish bursting with flavor and made with fresh ingredients. While the food is outstanding, the same cannot be said for the service. Unfortunately, the service lacks warmth and friendliness, which can detract from the overall dining experience. Despite this drawback, the servers are generally efficient in taking orders and delivering food promptly. Consider this place pricy like $20 cocktails ($16+tip&tax!) and you'll be charged $2 per portion if you'd like to share a soup or salad for instance! You'd better just order the item and share within yourselves Overall, this restaurant is a great choice for those seeking delectable cuisine, but don't expect the staff to go above and beyond in terms of friendliness. If you're willing to overlook the average service for the sake of enjoying fantastic food, this place is worth a visit. Parking might be difficult with paid street parking though a Safeway parking lot close by. It has accessible entrance with accessible table. Could be kids friendly but not good for groups / meetups as indoor is relatively small.

I had my birthday and they were able to accommodate really well. My steak dish was excellent and the deserts we shared were incredible. I will definitely come back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, chill atmosphere and friendly staff.
Every dish is delicious and satisfying. They have a great beer selection and wine selection. Come here often for lunch or dinner and are never disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyAlways a great consistent option in SF.
It's normally hopping. No idea why it was so empty on a Friday night. We had an awesome dinner with great ambiance and service. Hope people keep supporting our great restaurants in Sf.
Be the first to ReplyMy neighborhood, and it's too good for me now.
lol. Love this spot, but uggh not the owner but the patrons, and some "staff " will make you feel unwelcome and uncomfortable if you're "black". Though shiieet I love the restaurants the owner has in the town. Talk about Yummy!!
Be the first to ReplyIf you enjoy "elevated comfort food", this maybe your spot.
They have warm rustic atmosphere and excellent service to match. Keep in mind that they mix it up a bit by having different lunch, mid-day, and dinner menus. My suggestion for dinner, try 4 courses, in this order. Cheese plate, Soup/Salad, Main, and Dessert. No suggestions, they are all good, you will love them all :) Also, Don't forget to pair it all up with a super yummy and fresh cocktail.

It's been a while since I've dined here and I was so excited to come back. From my last experience a few years ago, it was amazing! Sadly, that was not the case yesterday. I recommended Wood Tavern to my work colleagues who were visiting from out of town. I arrived first and was greeted by the hostess, who was very nice. When i got seated, and the rest of my party arrived, we were waiting an incredibly long time for the waiter to greet us. We had several people come by every now and then to fill our water but when the waiter came, he didn't even tell us his name and that he'd be serving us. I ordered a cocktail and it was incredibly sweet for my liking. My other colleague arrived late and when it was time to order, she had asked about the "secret" vegan menu. She has food allergies and is vegan and had called in prior asking about accommodations with the menu. The person she spoke to was very nice and said to just ask the waiter and they would be able to make arrangements. When it was her turn to order, she asked the waiter about the vegan menu, he immediately shut it down and said no. She had explained her situation and so he went to ask the chef what was available. He came back letting her know that there was a vegan mushroom risotto cooked with water. She ordered that but when it came, she got a bowl of vegetables. He didn't address that and with my colleague constantly struggling to eat out due to her allergies, she didn't think it was worth it to bring it up. This is incredibly disappointing to hear. Additionally, the entree I received was almost inedible. I ordered the burger as medium rare but the burger was basically mooing at me. Fries were beyond salty. The only good think we ate was the appetizer - we ordered a few meats and cheeses. Overall, not a good dining experience, esp when I raved about this place to my out of town guests. For how expensive Wood Tavern, you expect top-notch service and delicious food. I won't be returning here as this left a negative experience.

Location is ideal for walking from anywhere in Rockridge.

Wow. I've only once before in my life sent a dish back, but the chicken was inedible--bitter and tasted as if doused in vinegar. Plus, it was WAY overcooked. Very dry. The service was excellent, great waitress, but I won't go back. A few years ago, this was an excellent restaurant, but it's lost its touch.

Wood Tavern offers an enchanting blend of lively ambiance, cozy atmosphere, and intimate dining that leaves a lasting impression. Despite the slight challenge of finding parking nearby (we were able to find parking within 2 blocks of the restaurant), the journey is undoubtedly worth the culinary delight that awaits inside! I went there to celebrate a friend's birthday and we were not disappointed. We made a reservation a week in advanced and we were promptly seated upon entering. We started off with the Butcher's block which was the perfect sharing size for our party of 5. It came with a variety of cold cuts, jams, and sauces. The highlight of the evening was the ribeye steak that I had for my entree. It was a generous portion size and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. For dessert we had a citrus cheesecake that had a honey syrup on top. It was tart and not too sweet. Throughout the evening, the attentive service further enhanced the dining experience. This restaurant is a bit pricey (~$40-50 for entree) but the food is definitely worth it and the price is reflective of the food's quality.

The setting is very pleasant. It's one of my favorite Bay Area restaurants.

Love the pork chop and hamburger. Good appetizers. Sitting at the bar is good if you do not have a reservation

Came here for dinner with my hubby to celebrate a belated Valentine's Day. Service was attentive and I like the ambiance of the restaurant. We were seated by the window which is a little more private which was great. We shared a bowl of the soup and salad. I ordered the pork chop which was so delicious. One of the best pork chop I have had. The sauce was tasty and love the veggies with it. Too much foods for me so I took nearly half of my pork chop togo and the next day heating up in the microwave is a true testament of how good the pork chop is!!! Amazing while fresh at the restraint and still pretty darn good in the microwave in the next day. I am impressed. I am so glad I didn't order the steak but ordered this dish instead but later learned it is their signature dish. My hubby had their burger with fries. He said they are pretty good. I stole some fries, lovely hot and crispy with some spice. I'd come back and eat this pork chop again and try other items on the menu.
Be the first to ReplyThe pork chop is a must forvtge meat eaters out there.
Service is always fabulous and you may have to wait for a table if you don't have a reservation.
Be the first to ReplyINCREDIBLE food.
My relatives in the area insist we come here every time I'm in town. We all got a broad range of food and everything on the table was delish. They even brought out free ice cream for my friend who's birthday we were celebrating! Great food, great location and an atmosphere that can't be beat

Now I know what has been missing in my life "an American brasserie experience" and thanks to Wood Tavern I've found it. The menu, service, and atmosphere is both unpretentious and sophisticated. Mixing and matching selections from the Butcher Block and Cheese Board was a delight as was choosing a cocktail to start and wine to follow. I lusted after every plate that came out of the kitchen but can attest to the perfection of the scallops and pork chops. Our server deftly guided us through our choices and helped to create an atmosphere of warmth and celebration. Thank you, Wood Tavern!
Be the first to ReplyFrom start to finish everything was amazing.
Reservations are a must as this place books up fast. Thank goodness my friend made a reservation and they even accommodated us for being early. The charcuterie board was one of the best I have ever had. And I have had my share. The pork chop and scallops were great. And the dessert, chocolate cake and homemade ice cream got devoured even after we were full from dinner. I almost forgot to mention the amazing fries, not on the menu. Addicting! Service was over the top. My son can be quite a handful and our server was so lovely and patient and accommodating. Only struggle is parking but once you park this is the place to go to..I can't wait to go back!

My wife and I have been here a few times over the years and our recent experience was mixed. We showed up at the exact time of our confirmed reservation and were told the earlier party was wrapping up, forcing us to wait for 10-15 min awkwardly in the entryway, and noticed a couple of open tables. Maybe hold a couple of seats at the bar for reservation guests to get a drink while waiting? For dessert we ordered a raspberry ice cream dish which wasn't very good, and the vanilla ice cream was almost certainly Trader Joes brand. Other than that, the meal was fine and we will be back but hope someone sees this feedback.
Be the first to ReplyGood food and lively atmosphere.
Portions are generous and cocktails are flawless. Service was attentive, friendly and non intrusive. Will definitely be on my regular spot list.

Most folks from the Central Valley (Sacramento, Stockton, Modesto etc...) usually bypass the East Bay heading into the City for some change of pace, scenery, and just because it's The City. That leads to missing out on some of the gems the East Bay has to offer. One in particular is Wood Tavern with its very inviting space and high end comfort food at a fairly reasonable price. This can be a casual experience or even a high end date night kinda place...it just depends on how you approach your evening and attitude is everything. The team at Wood Tavern really impresses from the bar to the wait staff to the master chefs executing dishes just a short flame away from the open kitchen. I have to say, take a seat at the bar, close to the kitchen if you enjoy cooking yourself or just appreciate skilled people manipulating food to its finest expression. One particular dish is chicken. It's hard not to dismiss chicken as it is truly simply chicken but Wood Tavern has been executing this dish for over 10 years plus and there is a reason why it's still on the menu. It's one of those dishes that in trying to describe loses its luster, and the dish is greater than the sum of its parts. Let's just say the amount of heat from the gas stove is impressive and it's a treat to watch the dishes in the pans while the butter is added to create sauces for the scallops and other tasty treats on the menu. Also, the burger is something special and the pork belly looked fantastic. The double cut pork chop looked impressive on the plate too. Like I said, treat yourself to a nearly kitchen side table at the bar and just enjoy the play by play of aromas and visual gluttony. It's ok, not really a sin to want every dish but probably a sin to order one of everything.

Great food! There are a lot of thing that could get on ones nerves - the parking, the price, the crowded seating, the absence of available last-moment reservations, the overall snobbish vibe, but the food makes up for it all.
Be the first to ReplyWe celebrated a friend's birthday here last night (2/4/23).
The service was slow as the waiter was not very accommodating. We sat for about ten minutes before our drink order was taken, then another ten for them to arrive. When he approached our table to take our order, my friend said, "We're ready." (said in a friendly and not sarcastic way). Apparently he took offense to that and said, "We'll, I was taking someone else's order!" Why he got defensive about that typical comment, I'll never know. Anyhow, that set the tone for our evening. He did not offer dessert menus, ask if we wanted appetizers, more drinks; We had to ask for everything. Also, one glaring omission. It was mentioned when the reservation was made, and at least twice that we were celebrating a birthday. I've never been to a restaurant that doesn't go out if its way to give a comped dessert to the celebrant with at least a candle stuck in it! The food was good, but we will not be back. The only memorable take-away of the evening was one of the cooks joining us as we sang happy birthday.

Tried calling multiple times to figure out if we needed a reservation. Being new to the area we drive there to find a middle aged host that was rude. I addressed i called multiple times and nobody picked up. She said " i have 15 things to do and i dont have time to take all the calls" ......are you kidding me. Its 2022 maybe try online reservation apps to help carry the workload for convenience to both parties....
