Amazing Michelin star restaurant, very authentic Mexican
Amazing Michelin star restaurant, very authentic Mexican flavors. The staff is very friendly and the food tasteful and pleasing. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyBig fan of Oxomoco and wanted to Xilonen with my friends
Big fan of Oxomoco and wanted to Xilonen with my friends who are mostly veg only. Was massively disappointed both by the food and the service. Came here on a Monday night as a group of 4. Food was just OK. Servers were both inattentive and rude - almost felt like they didn't want to serve us at all. Wine was spilled in water glasses, we were given 3 plates for 4 people and were left with empty plates on the table for the majority of the meal. Disappointed and won't be returning.

We've ate here before and hadn't gone back up until we saw they were on the Michelin Guide so we decided to give it another shot! To be completely honest, we were not too impressed. We tried their Birria tacos (pictured), green chorizo tacos, and Leek and Potato flautas all ranging from $14-16 each. We also had two cocktails which were $16 each. We're totally willing go to a pricier restaurant even if the portions are small like these, but only if they serve really high quality foods, and of course, delicious foods. However, this seemed overpriced for the food they served. The tacos and flautas lacked in texture and flavor (the dipping sauce for the Birria Tacos was really good though! ).I don't like to bash vegan restaurants since there are few of them and they're all centered around a similar mission of combating climate change. But im just being completely honest What was the worst part of this experience was that there was a big dead cockroach on the stairs that lead to the bathroom and when we told their staff about it and they said they would do something about it. 40minutes later when we were done with our food we went back downstairs to use the bathroom and the roach was still there ! Aside from that the staff was really friendly. We genuinely hope they improve as they do have a lovely space and a great concept
Be the first to ReplyI am honestly not sure why this place has such good reviews.
Maybe I am too hungry and too value-oriented to go for their tiny portions that barely whet my appetite, but this is not the place I would ever go for tacos/Mexican. First off their prices are like $10 for a tiny taco and I wouldn't exactly call this place authentic. Vegan/vegetarian options - galore. Kitschy - definitely. But not the place for someone who likes $2 taco Tuesday and tacos that are packed with flavor. These tacos come on the tiniest colored plates that look like kids plates made out of play doh. Nothing tasted bad and everything was decent; just definitely not worth the price. I left hungry and craving meaty pizza.

Finally got around to trying this place after hearing good things! The menu is a bit different than the one posted online- everything is vegan unless otherwise indicated, and the few vegetarian dishes can be made vegan by request- excellent! For drinks, we got the classic margarita and the Gato Rosado. My fiancé liked his and I really liked mine, though the price point is a bit high. For food, we got the corn (made vegan), the crunchy taco (made vegan), and the leek and potato tostada (already vegan). I'd skip the corn- it was 1 corn cob, split in half, and covered in the same sauce as the crunchy taco. Delicious sauce, but not worth $8. The crunchy taco was our favorite- it was super flavorful and the texture was great. It was also pretty large and filling. The leek tostada was good too- more mellow and savory flavors. For dessert, we tried both the chocolate tamale and the olive oil cake. The olive oil cake was great, and unlike any dessert I've tried before. The olive oil flavor comes through, and it's both sweet and salty. I do not recommend the chocolate tamale- that one needs more workshopping or something. The outdoor seating is perfect for people watching and feeling part of our vibrant community. Staff were super friendly. The service was a bit slow due to the new chef getting his bearings, which is understandable. The staff were apologetic and recognized our long wait without us having to say anything. All in all, a great date spot! We'll be back for brunch next time :)
Be the first to ReplyThe ambiance is trendy, the service was good.
The tacos and salad were good as well. However the quesadilla was like something I could whip up at home. It adds up though after ordering 2-3 tiny tacos etc that could've been half price for the same thing at similar establishments. I'd consider this more of a place you come to once in a while if you're looking to splurge on lighter but quality meal.
Be the first to ReplyService is excellent here: friendly and attentive.
One of my friends was celebrating her new job and the servers really went above and beyond to make her feel special - they even gave us a free dessert. I had an avocado tostada and a crunchy taco. The crunchy taco was delicious but dangerously spicy (even after just one bite). I asked for oat milk and the next table over did the same when they saw me get some. I would prefer if they toned down the heat or at least gave you the option. Cocktails are refreshing and tasty.

Extremely unique vegan/vegetarian restaurant Loved every single thing we ordered. The green chorizo ans red chorizo were on the spicy side, which I love! The scramble tostada was so good we got a second one. The olive oil cake was perfect ending to this delicious brunch. I'm definitely coming back here

Trying to eat healthier when I go out, and also be more plant-based so Xilonen was somewhere I wanted to check out since it opened. We came for a weekend dinner and got a bunch of small plates including the corn, the avocado tostada, the quesadilla and a few tacos. My husband (who is Mexican and loves meat) was obsessed with everything we ordered here. I think 2 of the 6-7 things we got were vegetarian and his faves were actually the vegan ones, the crunchy taco especially! The quesadilla had cheese and onions/peppers and was really flavorful. I think my favorite was the green chorizo taco, where the nuts were the chorizo.. so cool.

Arguably the best vegan brunch in Brooklyn! Xilonen is pretty new, but they're making a splash with their Mexican vegetarian menu. Most of the menu is vegan by default and the majority that aren't have a vegan option available. We were able to try a bunch of dishes and all of them were excellent! We ordered: Scrambled Egg Tostada ($12) // Made vegan with JUST egg and NUMU cheese. This was our favorite dish! The JUST egg was fluffy, the cheese was perfectly melted and the salsa macha on top was spicy and flavorful. A must get! Crunchy Taco ($8) // Another favorite, this is vegan with NUMU cheese or without cheese. The red chorizo was super flavorful inside the taco and the sauces on top were delicious and super complementary. It was a bit odd eating a taco with a knife and fork but I appreciated the take and it was definitely worth it!Green Chorizo Taco ($8) // My partner loved this taco but it wasn't my favorite. The chorizo was much more nutty but I appreciated the freshness of it. The avocado, salsa verde and radishes made a really nice bite! Fajitas Quesadilla ($15) // I was surprised by how much I liked this quesadilla because it seems unassuming, but it was fantastic! The peppers were super flavorful and perfectly grilled. The tortilla had an incredible texture and the cheese was amazing to hold it all together. The salsa on the side was great, too. Olive Oil Cake ($10) // This cake was a nice end to the meal as it was slightly savory and balanced by stone fruit and whipped cream. I don't often get dessert but I'm glad I tried this one! Xilonen was easily one of my favorite meals in New York so far. The Mexican flavors are nuanced and impactful, with a lot of house made elements and well selected items that are not made in house. I'm still thinking about the salsas and scrambled egg tostada! The atmosphere is cool and refined, service is laid back but helpful and our food came out fast. Unfortunately they weren't offering cocktails when we visited but they did have beer, wine and two frozen cocktails available. I would definitely come back for more tacos and tostadas, and to try one of their cocktails. So glad this vegetarian Mexican restaurant popped up and has taken a strong approach to making their menu extremely vegan friendly!
