Unforgettable place
The place is unforgettable. Not only does it have a spectacular view of Los Angeles, the gardens are beautiful, the lighting is very special. I recommend going at night, and the food is delicious.

Restaurant which is especially worth it for the view and the setting. The view is fabulous. It's wow! The food is good. Toro sushi hmmm a treat! Not a bad choice too. Something to please everyone. Where the bottom hurts is the rest. Already paying for parking to go to the restaurant... uh? In addition with valet, while the cars are parked 2m away. Oh well. Then the restaurant wants to be upscale. The prices are, but not the details. The chopsticks are single use like in any sushi shop down the street. The presentations are not always elaborate and the containers are not always suitable (for the Banana Split tempura: the cup wobbles on the plate). We had a great time but considering the price a little more attention to detail would enhance the experience.

Some friends who live in California took us to this place. We booked a table outside for 6pm and were able to enjoy the fantastic view of Los Angeles from the very first lights of the evening to enjoying the city lit up in the dark. Breath-taking view. Very well-kept environment inside too, with a Japanese garden. Historic structure, attentive service. Average food for a good Japanese restaurant. Excellent drinks. Perfect if you're not looking for a cheap place.

Excellent Restaurant, visited here a few years ago when in LA and this time was with my son so decided to book again. Certainly, did not disappoint. Food was excellent as was the Service. Fantastic Views of LA from Hollywood Hills.

Too many people saying the same thing: Haphazard food delivery – don’t expect to eat as a family its each man for themselves here if you mix hot and cold dishes. Waited for our table for 20 mins at the bar – couldn’t get served… Waited 30 mins for a glass of wine after being seated. Impersonal, cold, sparse and slow service but still the max tip request. Hugely expensive for mediocre dishes – the sushi was praised by my family though. You are just a cog in the machine and they don’t seem to cope or care. They did refund my main meal that came 10 mins before my family’s so got cold and then got reheated and then arrived back after they finished. Well done! I’d had enough of them by then and just wanted to go so we didn’t order desert. All in all a huge costly disappointment – but yes the view and gardens are nice. Maybe take a picnic and save $300!

Went to this restaurant for my sons 21st birthday whilst in LA, first they brought over his starter which he finished on his own then my main course half way through my main they brought out my starter then his side dish after 20min he got his main course, when I complained they told me the dishes are served in no particular order, what a joke!!!!! In all the years that I have dined in restaurants I have never experienced this. Food was mediocre, when I asked for the bill they had the audacity to ask me if I wanted to leave a tip, needless to say I respectfully declined. There are much nicer restaurants in LA, don’t waste your money in this one.

Be the first to ReplyMemorable experience
It’s a beautiful experience and everyone should go at least once. The view is stunning, the food is great. Strangely the wait for a table was long even on a weeknight even though we had a reservation and we weren’t the only ones. It was stranger because there were some empty tables. My guess is that there were less serving staff. Ask for recommendations if you’re not sure what to order. We loved the sashimi, dragon roll and yes they have kid options too though it’s not listed on the menu.
Be the first to ReplyDon't go to Brunch
A historic and colorful atmophere cannnot make up for good restauranting. They don't make it clear online and in the Resy confirmation that 2:30pm is a "Brunch" not regular menu and that you have to order within so many minutes before the kitchen closes for a few hours reopening at 5pm. Also even though we were one of the few tables being served, the kitchen didn't make sure the eggs benedict has hollandaise sauce. Also, its important that all the guests get the dishes they ordered, they didn't. Food quality was good thought the portions are small save for the biscuits and gravy chicken. Very spotty performance. The reason the Cheesecake Factory is so successful is that they can serve hundreds of tables and not make mistakes. Yamashiro's needs some of their management.
Be the first to ReplyMagical evening at Yamashiro
Dining at Yamashiro's was a notable event from beginning to end. With the sensational Hollywood Hills view and sunset, we sat at our high-top table sipping delicious cocktails. The Kabayahsi cocktail is unique and refreshing with notes of hibiscus and ginger. Our service was impeccable but not hovering. The Yellow Dragon Roll was fresh, complex and delicious as was the Hamachi Mango roll. The food at Yamashiro's is inventive and beautiful as well. I highly recommend taking out-of-town guests as the vistas are stunning, the people-watching is very Hollywood and entertaining but the food is center stage.

This place is EXTREMELY overrated. Don’t waste your time or money going here. The food is average at best. They charge you $15-20 to valet. Just basic…super average experience.

Our sixth stay in LA - Yamishiro is a must every time. The service & food was great. Pricing is as expected for a great experience. The post covid upgrades & Improvements to the gardens & the outdoor space is fabulous. Best views of LA also. It's a must for visitors & locals.

Food and drinks were very good. What wasn't good was the service. Very mediocre for the price. Plus, entrees came out 5 minutes after apps. A HUGE no no for me.

Get ready it is a long review. We decided to celebrate my husband's birthday at Yamashiro. Our experience was horrible. We ordered 2 vegetarian meals, one was "mushroom steak", which in reality was just 2 steamed medium sized portobello mushrooms and a few steamed veggies on the side with unflavored rice. The 2nd meal was fried rice which was supposed to be served inside a pineapple (that was the reason we ordered it) based on the description on their MENU and online site. We received just regular fried rice with chunks of pineapple in it. It tasted ok, but not for the price. We complained to our waitress about the false advertisement in their menu to which she didn't have much explanation, just said that they are not serving it in pineapple anymore... I guess this high class restaurant didn't want to spend money on updating the menu and their site. The worst part was when my husband was eating RICE he almost swallowed A PIECE OF METAL!!! This was so unacceptable. We called the waitress immediately and complained about it. The piece of metal was sharp and could've damaged my husband's organs if he swallowed it. She took it from us, apologized and replaced the rice with noodles. When they eventually brought the noodles, they dropped off the plate and didn't even bring utensils. At that point we had enough with the service and food issues, so I had to walk to the front and ask for a manager. A young girl introduced herself as a manager. I explained to her our terrible experience so far and asked how can she make it better for my husband as it was his Birthday. She apologized and told me she'll get him a desert (specific cake with ice cream) and it would be on her, she asked if I want it to be a surprise for him, I told her "that would be nice", then she followed me to my husband and asked him what flavor for the desert he prefers?! (so much for the surprise, right?). He told her which one he wanted. Then we waited for a while and no desert was presented to us. A waitress stopped by and gave us a dessert menu and told us to choose which we wanted and it would be on her. We of course didn't order from the menu as we expected the specific cake promised to us from the manager. After waiting for a while we didn't receive anything. But the waitress brought our check. Where to our surprise we had to pay for the whole meal (excluding the rice). I had to go to the front AGAIN to speak to a manager. I told her that we never received the cake she promised, to which she responded that we refused to get a desert from the menu which the waitress brought to us earlier. I explained her that we refused because she told us she'll bring a specific cake and we didn't need multiple deserts. She appeared to be clueless to what I was saying. Apparently she was very forgetful that day. At the end I had to fight with her over our bill. The once great Yamashiro is clearly no more. We can now only think of great experiences from years past (pre pandemic) and know that we won't be coming back to this place ever again.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday dinner gone wrong!!
Came here to dinner with cousins and with my husband to celebrate his BDay… food is really good I don’t even know how to start!! My issue was with our waitress WOW! HORRIBLE!!! very RUDE everything was good when we arrived and she took first 2 orders of drinks and starter after she came back we needed more drinks and we ordered sushi she already had a change of NASTY MOOD!! She even told us can I take the me he’s away so you guys don’t dirty them and I said well we haven’t order our food yet so I was setting it aside I guess and she literally reached over me and grabbed it snatched it actually out of my hands before I even set it aside and she threw it on the other corner of the table!!! I really just kept my cool and ignored it. We asked for another round of drinks and they actually took like 20+ min to bring I was asking her why our drinks are taking so long and she said while walking away from me that we weren’t the only ones ordering drinks and that there was more than 1,000 orders this girl/waitress literally said that to me still while walking away from me!!! We asked for water and she brought a jar of water that SHE just slammed the jar on our table while speed walking I’m not even making this up if the Manager or who ever is in charge they should look at their cameras she slammed it so hard it made a loud bang noise I was shocked of how she was just so RUDE we asked for our check and she took like 20 min to pick up the check we wanted to leave so BAD FROM THERE I FELT LIKE NOT WANTED LIKE WE DIDNT BELONG THERE EVEN THOUGH WE SPEND OVER $700 for 4 people when she took the check she was speed walking by our table I had to get a little pound and call her out HELLO HERE YOU GO WE WANNA PAY TO GO HOME! SHE TOOK THE CHECK AND TOLD ME I DONT NEED YOUR MONEY!!!! LOL!!!!!! Snatched it and again raced away from us and at this point we all laughed bcz she told me I DONT NEED YOU MONEY BUT THEN SHE STILL TOOK IT AND CHARGED MY CARD!!!! LOL!! IDK WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS GIRL AFTER OR FIRST 20 minutes of being there

Amazing view, terrible food and even worse service. Was seated inside despite requesting an outdoor table weeks ago, service was rushed…had to go to the bar from the table to order drinks as the waiter was M.I.A! To top it all off the food was bland (had better sushi from UK supermarkets) DO NOT GO HERE FOR FOOD. Grab a beer, enjoy the view and go elsewhere for dinner!!!
Be the first to ReplyMind-blowingly bad service
Mind blowingly bad service - went tonight for my 40th birthday celebration - we’re visiting from the UK & had reserved an outdoor table weeks ago. When we arrived we were told to wait 10 mins for our table which was no problem we got a text to say it was ready. We were taken to an indoor table right at the back - we could see the view but not what we were expecting & kind of defeated the object of going there! My friend asked if we could move & was told it would be an hours wait so we stayed put. Our waiter was nice greeted me with a happy birthday (which now knowing what was to come actually makes me feel worse!) left us some menus & then disappeared for so long we actually went to the bar to order our own drinks - finally came to take our order for food. Food came out fairly quickly but was just bad - the tempura shrimp was tasteless, the peppers inedible & the white dragon sushi super bland. Our tacos never came. Waiter came back after we’d finished eating to offer desert we said we’d just take the check but to take off the tacos - he said oh yeah they weren’t available - no apologies just like oh well. Left us the card machine to work out for ourselves and never saw him again! Literally worst restaurant experience and birthday meal ever :-(
Be the first to ReplyTerrific food and service with a terrific view!
Having read many of these reviews prior to going, I have to say, this restaurant is more than a tourist trap. Our group of 4 had a variety of items and we had no complaints, and the bartender and the server both gave top-notch service. The price-point is high because you're paying for the view, we spent our first evening in Hollywood here and don't regret it!

The hostess group was extremely rude and borderline aggressive. The manager was especially hostile and I’m shocked she’s allowed to work in service. Not worth the overpriced sushi.

We loved this restaurant. Its beautiful and the food was very good. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Be the first to ReplyUltimate Tourist Trap. AVOID
This is the ultimate tourist trap to be avoided at all costs. Honestly it is cringeworthy awful.
The food, dumplings were tepid warm and pasty. The salmon rolls were barely bite sized for children. Tempura shrimp was a fried heart attack in a tasteless beer batter on a mound of tempura veg that was devoid of taste, presentation and probably nutrition.
Sushi pizza. Oh what a mistake to order. The name should have been enough.
Calamari is hard to mess up but again overloaded with tasteless beer batter and a mound of tempura peppers which we asked not to be included.
Asked could we charge a phone. No. Asked for cup three times, Could we sit inside as it was chilly. No in spite of a dozen or more empty ones. What's your wifi password. "We don't have one its only for staff"
Garlic shrimp sushi roll was white on white on a mush of liquid and not edible.
The diet coke was flat.
Not 10 feet away a maintenance man tools askew was working throughout on fake flowers or lights. We were at a four table at the entrance to the deck but with five we had to push three onto one side of the table to avoid being bumped by every customer and staff going past. Not comfortable.
Service was based on get them in, get them out and charge as much as possible . Exorbitant prices by any standard for very mediocre and downright bad food.
The location drew us but it was tacky, with peeling paint on handrails, a damaged Bhudda statue, garbage and broken fence below the main deck.
Zero effort at customer service with the exception of the valet parker who helped retrive sweaters from the car for us.
Our worst LA experience and we ,two adults 3 children, paid almost $500 for the "privilege" Don't waste your time or money.
Astonishingly lovely
Perched above the Hollywood and LA scene with unparalleled views. This is the classic gem that you wonder how it could have been created. Food , either typical American, or Sushi , is all very solid , as is the wait staff . On a clear day or night this place is insanely special … but it would hold its own even in the more common haze . Not to be missed !!
Be the first to ReplyGreat view and food
We went on Super Bowl weekend Friday, so the place was totally booked. It's expensive but elegant. We both ate steak and it was melt in your mouth good. Not into sushi so can't comment on that. Creme brulee dessert was very good as was the coconut shrimp appetizer. Beautfiul setting. Go just before sunset so you can see it while daylight and with nightime lights too.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent location, terrible service
Amazing view, amazing food. Let down by the terrible service. Table booked for 7:15 and then made to wait over 45 minutes for our table to be ready. Service absolutely terrible. Took over 45 minutes to take our order then saw the waitress once after this. Several items not available on the menu and we were only told this after trying to order it. Restraunt charges for the location but not worth it due to the terrible service.
