Meal for two
Amazing food and excellent service from the staff. Great menu which makes it hard to choose, classic British dishes and great gluten free options. You can have a glass of wine by the sofas after your meal.
Be the first to ReplyMemorable Conference Experience at historic venue with modern facilities
I organised a Conference at Ye Olde Bell and all of our delegates were very impressed with the general quality of the venue and food and the professionalism and friendliness of the staff. The venue is a traditional coaching Inn on the old Great North Road which retains much of its period charm whilst having a brand new state of the art spa facility round the back and a number of new ground floor apartments and suites adjacent to the main building. These proved extremely popular with some of our older guests as there is no lift in the main building. The staff were exceptionally welcoming and diligent and I would like to thank in particular " Liverpudlian Billy" and his amazing team for ensuring that the standard of service which we received during all of our meals and functions was first rate. The food was uniformly excellent and all delegates agreed that they would gladly recommend this venue for a weekend getaway.

We went for the couples retreat deal (see their website) which included evening meal , breakfast and overnight stay. I also booked for a massage at the spa. Every staff member in both the hotel and spa were absolutely lovely- friendly, attentive, polite. The lady on reception even remembered about my treatment and asked how it was the next day. The room was really nice- characterful and comfortable. Something different to your normal chain hotels! It would have been nicer to have a bigger tv but not a big issue. The food in the restaurant on the evening meal was a little bit disappointing- my chips were rock hard and onion rings just tasted greasy. However the next morning the breakfast was really good quality and a nice choice. The full body massage was brilliant, and the building is beautiful. The massage bed was heated and could be tilted up at the end which I’d never seen before so was a really nice touch. I would happily come to stay here again 😊

Spa was amazing, couldn’t fault it. Loved the drink service in the spa and the treatments were really good! Over to the hotel, very dated, food ok. Cocktail menu awful; what you expect to see at an all inclusive hotel in Benidorm. Gin choice limited. The tvs in the room need updating as do the mattresses, mine was pocket sprung and lumpy, very uncomfortable. We booked a double room and it had 2 single beds pushed together which I really hate. Could do with some nicer bedding, pillows and duvets too. (We were in room 19) There was also a bloody awful singer in the restaurant (I thought someone was doing karaoke) luckily there was another restaurant room to dine in! The hotel really let down our stay after an amazing time at the spa.

Have eaten here several times and been delighted. This was disappointing as only three of four meals arrived together with one having been forgotten. The Tagliatelle was a quite large portion and very strongly flavoured. The pork belly was more fatty than expected.

FOOD REVIEW ONLY Visited for a ladies family meal to celebrate a forthcoming wedding. Very good service with the food. Good menu choices & all food nicely cooked. We had some problems with the mocktails & the first one received contained alcohol! They then brought a second but it wasn't the one asked for & the third one which was on the menu , they admitted they had to google how to make it, but sadly it tasted like cough medicine! When the bill arrived the alcoholic one was on the bill but when we pointed it out they immediately removed it and apologised. The food was lovely & the staff helpful & friendly but I feel the building itself needs a bit of a facelift & is a little tired in certain areas.

Having gone away for a surprise night away with my friends for my birthday we were really happy with the spa and the hotel. We went down for our evening meal at 7:30 and by 9 o’clock we had still not received our starter. We eventually ate our main course at 10 o’clock which by then we were past eating. During the time from sitting down we were never asked if we wanted another drink or told what was on the specials board and when we did ask a question no one seemed to know the answer. Every hotel is finding things difficult at the moment between staff shortages and the cost of living crisis and I am sympathetic to this however I believe that the mark of a good hotel is how they react when a customer is disappointed in something. On the evening of our meal I complained to the staff about the delay to our meal but again no one really seemed to know what was happening. The next day I again explained to the receptionist how much it had spoiled our evening only for it to fall on unsympathetic ears with little to no response. Unlike me (because I never complain) I then followed up my experience with an email to the hotel. The email took days to respond to and when I did get a response it was suggested that they were aware they had operational problems on the night we stayed but didn’t think anyone had noticed! Not a good response! The GM did ask me to let her know the next time I was in and she would buy me a drink. Overall I can forgive problems in hotels at the moment because I appreciate how hard things are but handling customer dissatisfaction in this way is inexcusable. I don’t fee unreasonable to complain when a meal takes 2.5 hours to serve!
Be the first to ReplyFestive Sandwich
We visited for a festive sandwich in December. Upon arrival we were greeted and shown to our table, very well looked after by a lady. I had ordered the Brie in sage and onion breadcrumbs - it was out of this world!! My husband had the Turkey Sandwich and that was incredible too! Fantastic service and delicious menu also very reasonably priced.

Booked months ago in 2022 for husband's 70th birthday for a party of 12. Price given at the time of booking for Sunday lunch which was for January 1st 2023, £34.00, on the high side but this was a special occasion to be shared with friends and family. However, the price on the set menu's on the table was £38.00. Ok, no quibble at that point, it was New Year's Day, so maybe that was the reason for the price increase. Regarding the food, I can only comment on mine, the mushroom soup was not as described, had a strange texture, neither smooth or creamy. My salmon main, was not hot or even warm, I suspect it had been left standing, the sauce was tasteless. The dessert trolley is impressive - full marks to the pastry chef. So not a spectacular eating experience which it has now transpired was actually £40 per head they just omitted to either inform or change the price on the menu. Less than transparent which I can't find an excuse for, and as a result we will not be returning. It is our practice to celebrate my husband's New Year's Eve birthday on the following day but we can get better value elsewhere. So the venue may believe the extra on the price is justified but the manner in which it was applied has lead to my negative impression.

We have been here for Spa Day with Overnight Hotel. Spa is lovely but first one that has not had a nice swim pool just a little pool with seating. Snowstorm not working. Staff as they call butlers not very attentive and food although lovely was let down by both courses being luke warm. The outside area could do with a clean up and maybe put on some outside fires although winter still should be usable and nice. Treatments were great. The hotel upon entering had an old sweaty awful smell. The rooms were nice but quite a few cobwebs and one room was unbearable with the heat and the noise from the wedding. Evening meal was beautiful and staff looked after us but breakfast was like fawlty towers, eggs slipped off a plate from one member of staff then was stood on my another and the general manager walked over it. The general manager came out with a dish for another table and was eating something and then took to a table then stuck her fingers in her mouth to dislodge something from her teeth, disgusting. This hotel has lots of character and is very big but it does need an intense clean. Will not revisit as been to better places and the price paid I was expecting a lot better.
Be the first to ReplyRoom let down our experience
We booked at overnight spa package and the spa experience was wonderful, good facilities and excellent food at the spa and hotel, however the hotel room let the experience down, despite having windows fully open all night and sleeping on top of the covers (in october) the temperature of the room was unbearable! Worst nights sleep ever! Mentioned this on checkout and was simply told "will make a note of it!" This unfortunately took the shine of an otherwise amazing stay
