Top-Shelf Eating And Restaurant Atmosphere.

5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Conny Wylie on 07/18/2024

Zuma Boston is a Japanese restaurant bedded in the 2nd floor of the 4 C's Hotel. It features a unique private dining space with floor to ceiling glass windows: a classy environment. The restaurant is inspired by the izakaya style of Japanese dining in which dishes are brought to the table continuously through the meal. The menu is dynamite with items like Salmon & Tuna Tartare, stellar Tempura, Robata Skewers, Wagyu Beef Sushi and more. I dug into Miso Soup, Crisp Fried Calamari and Sake Marinated Chicken-wings...................a super delicious trio. Zuma is a top-shelf eating and restaurant atmosphere.

Best contemporary Japanese food in the Back Bay Area-- Zuma

5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Kit D. on 06/30/2024

Best contemporary Japanese food in the Back Bay Area-- Zuma offers an immensely enjoyable fine dining experience. Prepare to spend about 2-3 hours here for an incredible 4 course meal, worth 5 stars. For a fixed price you get unlimited appetizers, sushi (nigiri & maki), one entree per person, and one dessert platter for the table. Ambiance: We came for brunch on a Saturday and were seated right by the window on a very comfortable sofa seat. Service: the staff is incredibly kind! Shoutout to our server Claire, who wanted to give us the full experience for our first time, and went above and beyond in her insights and assistance. We originally ordered 3 appetizers, but she spoiled us and brought us one of each to try. Food (Appetizers, 1): The appetizer selection consisted of edamame, spicy fried chicken, vegetable tempura, breaded sweet potato, dressed corn, and sweet peppers with lime. My favorites were the spicy fried chicken which came with a chili sauce and a lemon slice (my favorite!) and the veggie tempura. The vegetables were lightly battered and fried which I enjoyed, and the chicken was cooked very well. Food (Sushi, 2): The sushi was extremely fresh and absolutely delicious. I'm not a huge fan of raw fish, but I was more than eager to try the offerings. There were 4 rolls to select from-- we ordered the spicy tuna, kappa (ginger-cucumber-avo) vegetarian, and salmon-avo roll. Absolutely incredible! The spicy tuna was my favorite-- super flavorful and I really enjoyed it as tempura. The kappa and salmon-avo were delicious as well. The rice on the sushi was of high quality, and stuck without being technical sticky rice. Food (Entree, 3): BEST PART. BEST STEAK EVER. WOW. My mom and I both opted for the 4oz spicy beef tenderloin and my mom's boyfriend got the salmon. The beef tenderloin came with red pepper flakes, sesame seeds, and a soy-chili sauce. Cooked medium well was the way to go. It was so juicy. Had we not had been so full from the other courses, I would have finished my mom's off as well. 20/10 rating in my book. My mom's boyfriend reported that his salmon was incredible, and the crust was fantastic. Food (Dessert, 4): We started off with complimentary shots-- we got the virgin berry shot and espresso martini shots, both very good! The berry one reminded me of a fancy strawberry popsicle. Then came the dessert platter, which was INSANE. It came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and sherbet, mixed fruits, a coconut-tapioca pudding, chef's daily pastry selection (chocolate chip cookies!), and mochi ice cream. Everything was so fresh and delicious. The sherbet was rich and tart, my favorite. The cookies were freshly baked and the mochi ice cream was so soft and creamy, definitely the best I've had. Overall, the dining experience at Zuma was absolutely incredible, and one we will never forget. Thank you, Zuma!

Great food and experience

5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @AlvinMonk on 06/24/2024

Reservations were simple to make and they have a system to easily and properly confirm them. We showed up early and our table wasn't ready. So, we sat at the bar for one drink. No napkins with our drinks, something I have not seen before. Bartender was smartly dressed and low-cut top. We were nicely dressed, but most other people there were not (shorts, polos, street clothes). Our table was ready when our drinks were finished and it was clear we were not ordering another round. We were escorted to our tables, through the restaurant that was pretty full with other customers. The celling was quite high and the decor modern and happening. But it was quite loud with talk, and no music. More noise than is relaxing for a nice dinner. We ordered another set of drinks, bottled water, several appetizers, and main courses. The staff (not the waiter) messed up and poured tap water. Then I told her that we ordered bottled water, so she took the tap water away. Then the next girl came and started pouring tap water again with new glasses. Then the waitress came and apologized for the mix-up, but we stuck with tap water at that point. The drinks came with a large square of ice, that yields a far less watered-down experience. The Salmon/Tuna appetizer was served on a slab, on top of a whole bowl of ice. The salmon was a bit fishy, the tuna was better. Crackers were made in house. The Japanese peppers were delicious and enough of them to share. We ordered several different stakes, each pre-sliced up nicely, with amazing dipping sauce. All delicious and served to perfection. Deserts were a work of art, and lots of chocolate, caramel, ice cream, and more. Portions seemed small, but I got filled up by the end of the meal. No offer to cover our valet parking fee. Maybe I should have asked? It did not seem that many people used the valet because my car was left right in front of the hotel the entire time. Most people will absolutely love this restaurant and their experience. A few people may feel it is the best meal they ever had. And I sincerely doubt that anyone would not like it. Bring a date, celebrate an anniversary, a special birthday, or a big job promotion. You will not be disappointed.

Zuma is a great place to go for the ambiance and their food

4/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Lizzie Y. on 06/13/2024

Zuma is a great place to go for the ambiance and their food is solid. It's located in the Four Seasons, up the stairs. Make sure to make a reservation! Usually there's a bunch of tables available day of but I believe reservations are required anyways. Dress code is basically no activewear or sweats but whenever I have come here, seems that everyone just wears all black. They don't have the best sushi in the city but it's lovely for dinner with friends or birthday dinners. I do like their desserts. Service is always great and attentive. Parking can be found on the nearby streets such as Huntington Ave or can park in one of the garages.

Zuma Boston has became a favorite date spot for my boyfriend and I. We splurge on special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries so be prepared to spend at least $150+ (that includes drinks and tip). I'm not sure how quick you can get a table without a reservation, it's best to make one with how busy they get. Service is always great and I love the cozy, romantic vibe it has inside. Their bathroom and outside lobby make a great spot for mirror selfies and instagram pics. Food and drinks have consistently been excellent. I LOVE their uni (sea urchin). It's so creamy and fresh, you can tell they really use top quality. I've had bad uni before and it's not a pleasant taste.

Swanky Izakaya where the drink requires almost as much

5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Todd S. on 05/29/2024

Swanky Izakaya where the drink requires almost as much attention as the food. The Takahasi Cooler is a blueberry, blackberry, mint, lime and apple vodka concoction that I would highly recommend. Would also try the Yamatochi Cooler, a refreshing tequila, mint, ginger, lychee, elderflower and lime libation. The food is masterly crafted and presented, for which you will pay handsomely. The basic Omakase runs $138 and the premium is $168. Try Zuma's tempuras, either the rock shrimp with chili tofu (Ishi Ebi) or the softshell crab katsu with wasabi mayo and fennel salad. The Robata (grilled skewers, similar to Yakitori) is always yummy, and my personal favorites were the grilled scallops with pickled plum, shiso, and mentaiko butter. There's the signature black cod marinated in saikyo miso and wrapped in a hoba leaf, and a selection of 4 different Wagyu's. As for grilled seafood, I was pleased with the Alaskan king crab in a ponzu lime butter, although that alone will set you back $79. This is one of the few Japanese establishments where I would order some of the more exotic and mouthwatering cuts of sushi or sashimi. I would spring for the Chu Toro (medium fatty, my favorite) or the Oh Toro (very fatty) tuna, as well as the Uni, but only if the Uni is from Japan (do not waste your money on Uni from Maine), so be sure to ask ahead of time "where the Hni from?" Before ordering. The entire dinner will set you back a mini-King's ransom, so start saving now!

Service was good, their reservations go by fast so you should reserve them in advance. The omakase had more flash than substance, you get a lot of food for the price though. I really enjoyed the nigiris, I would have ordered more ร  la carte! The steak was underseasoned but the sauce made up for it and the fish had great flavor. The sashimi was nothing to rave about. The flavor had so much potential but overall the food was mediocre. It's a cute and fancy place. 10/10 vibes.

My wife and I did the premium omakase this past weekend and it was an amazing experience. The decor is very nice and the restaurant feels intimate. The cocktails were awesome, thought slightly on the pricey side. The food was fantastic. Everything was delicious and artfully plated. Each course was amazing. My personal favorite was the scallops, but the steak was a close second. Our server, Stephanie, was great. She was attentive and informative and provided excellent drink pairing choices. I would love to have a server like Stephanie any time! We had a small snafu during dinner and Stephanie leapt into action and took care of us. She really took the dinner from a 10/10 to a 12/10!

For cocktails, I highly recommend the raspberry martini! And make sure you leave room for the chocolate lava cake dessert!

This was one of our true first "night on the town"

5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Anthony M. on 01/16/2024

This was one of our true first "night on the town" experience post COVID and it was amazing. COVID regulations: We had to book 2 weeks ahead for a party of 4 due to limited seating capacity. We arrived and were told that we had 90 minutes to dine. Tables were spaced apart and hand sanitizer was placed on every table. Overall, we felt it was both a safe and efficient dining experience. Ambience: The restaurant was spacious with huge windows and high ceilings. There was a sense of grandeur with their use of wood and the glass containers holding their wine glasses over the bar resembled a unique chandelier. The restaurant wasn't quiet but it also wasn't loud. Our group could easily communicate. Again, we went during COVID and although they were fully booked, it probably wasn't their max dining capacity. Food/ drink: A few of the cocktails were pretty creative and tasted great. We also got a bottle of sake with the expert recommendation of our waiter. Since it was our first time there, we opted for the omakase dinner and we weren't disappointed. I've had a few omakase dinners in which there's a personal relationship built with the chef as you watch them prepare each dish and piece in front of you with care. Although this portion of the experience was missing, the food was one of the best I've ever had. I could imagine the care of the chefs who made our dishes. The fish was fresh, the food was perfectly paired, and the food was perfectly balanced. Overall: The experience was fantastic. Our waiter was attentive without being overly annoying. He was there when we looked up and checked in enough times between plates. He was also knowledgeable as we asked questions and recommendations. Thank you Zuma for giving us a fun and safe experience to start off our eventual return to normalcy.

So the first thing to say is that this place is not at the four seasons by the common, thereโ€™s two four seasons in Boston. Itโ€™s still fairly new so everything looks great, and being new thereโ€™s a vibe about that this is the place to be. A well stocked bar with places to sit, high tables, low tables, a sushi bar, a DJ booth, open kitchen with plenty of flames to impress. I suspect you wonโ€™t get in without a booking. Casual dress, people in sneakers and baseball caps and others in suits. We dived into a cocktail, Vespa - nice. Attentive and knowledgable service. The food was amazing, I recommend the rock shrimp and the scallops. We stuck to mainly small sushi dishes and kept the cocktails rolling. If youโ€™re visiting Boston you got to visit this place !

3/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Matthew H. on 03/24/2023

My friend and I came for lunch during Dine Out Boston, for which had a streamlined menu that you could choose 4 things from, for $32 (some things cost extra). Both of our orders came with a miso soup, which was a bad start to our meal. There was definitely way too much miso paste in the soup, creating a really imbalanced, heavy, fermented flavour. I took a few sips and couldn't bear it any longer. Actually quite shocking to me, since I think miso soup is a very fundamental dish for most high-end Japanese (-adjacent?) restaurants to perfect. Our eight dishes came intermittently as they were ready, which I liked, since it felt like we could eat leisurely without seeing a tableful of yet-uneaten food. Some highlights that I really liked were the spicy tuna roll, which had a really full, fresh flavour in the fish and a very tasty dollop of sauce on the top; and the salmon tartare, which was very fragrant and came on top of a yummy, slightly-sweet bun (not sure why it was called a miso bun).We had the prawn and black cod dumplings, which had a strange mouthfeel to it - just a bit of a strange juxtaposition for the flavour/texture of fish in the wrapping of a dumpling, which is def not common. But still a very good dish nonetheless! I also had the mixed sashimi donburi which was really delicious! The fish bites were so fresh and the portion sizes of fish, veggie, avocado, rices, etc. was very well-planned.Tuna tataki was a bit meh - not an amazing flavour from the slightly seared edges but the sauce was a nice touch. At the end, there was a nice treat - I had forgotten that we had indicated that we were here for a birthday meal, and the server surprised us with a scoop of matcha ice cream on the house :) I love matcha sm, so I was super happy with this. All in all, definitely a good meal, and I was glad I had the chance to come try it out during Restaurant week. However, skimming through the normal menu and noting how much dishes ordinarily cost, I'm not sure if the quality of everything would be necessarily worth another visit. (Especially the miso soup, the poor quality of which honestly still confounds me.)

I went to Zuma on a Friday night for a classy dinner out -- it ended up being pretty incredible! I booked a reservation a couple weeks in advance, this place can get busy and hard to get into last minute as it's attached to the Four Season Hotel. The vibe is classy and clean, not too in your face. The night I went there was a DJ playing music that really heightened the swanky Friday night ambiance.I got the Zuma Mai Tai and it was an incredible cocktail. It was sweet and not too rum-forward. As for the food, amazing! The edamame and miso soups were delicious. The yakitori-negima yaki chicken skewers were so tender and flavorful. The sushi really stole the show though. The tuna and salmon nigiri were so incredible, just melted in my mouth and tasted so fresh. The chirashi maki roll was unbelievable, highly recommend it!Also got the sake no teriyaki kyuri zoe salmon which was just as amazing as everything else. The shiitake no ninniku fuumi mushroom dish was super flavorful too. The service was good, though at times a little slow but the pacing and everything worked for a Friday night out. They were a little backed up so didn't get sat for my 8:30 res until about 8:45.This place is pricey, but the amazing food plus ambiance really made it worth it for me!

3/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Dannie W. on 02/26/2023

The service and food is not as good as I expected considering the food is expensive. I made a reservation, got there on time while my friend was late. They didn't give me a table until I followed up with them after 15 minutes of waiting at the door. Also, it's winter time and we all have big jackets and scarves and hat. They never offered to check our coats. We ordered sashimi, special sushi, and rice hotpot. The sashimi is very ordinary. They are expensive but taste like normal $$ sushi restaurants. The special sushi is good but not like "wow they are so good that I have to order again". I definitely tasted better but cheaper sushi in some other restaurants. The rice hot pot is good and plenty of tables ordered that. I may come back for that. The cocktail is ok. The Japanese Paloma is a no to me. I can't taste the yuzu. But they did put a lot of alcohol in it. The lychee and rose petal martini is pretty good though. The presentation looks better than Japanese Paloma for sure. Water is $9. I guess that's the price I have to pay in an expensive restaurant. I'm glad that the molten chocolate cake is not too sweet and it tastes good with the vanilla ice cream The tables are a bit close. So not enough privacy. The restaurant is packed for sure on Saturday night.

Celebrated my girlfriend's birthday here at Zuma Boston, and was really impressed with my overall experience here. Coming from New York City and the abundance of Japanese restaurants, I had low expectations...however Zuma really came up to snuff with my New York palate. We made a reservation in advance for our little weekend getaway. Under the reservation I had confirmed it was a celebration. After dinner was all wrapped up Zuma was nice enough to include a complimentary dessert and wished my girlfriend a Happy Birthday. This was great as i didnt even request for this service but it was provided at the end of the meal. The food was all really good. From the sushi, the rolls, tofu salad (our favorite), grilled shishito peppers, and the fried tempura. Everything we ordered was of expectation of quality and taste. The cocktails are what makes this an experience in my opinion. With unique japanese flavoring the drinks were exquisitely prepared and presented.I would highly suggest Zuma for a great special occasion. Might be a little stuffy for some but all you have to do is just not give a fck!

So. Went with family who had been to Zuma before. The restaurant is beautiful. Modern, comfortable seating lots of windows. Elevator from lobby to restaurant. Staff was on point, informative and friendly .We tried several dishes and they were all very good. It's pricey so it's not a place we would go to often but it was a fun experience just the same. Their cocktails and drinks are generous and very good also. I'd recommend trying them out. I'll go back again when I'm in the area.

We came here for the weekend brunch which is 75pp and we got one of everything except for the vegetarian maki. The apps were okay, chicken karage was salty and had too much breading, vegetable tempura batter was not crispy enough, corn was buttery and flavorful! I enjoyed that. The sushi was okay, favorite would prob be the salmon avo and the yellowtail maki. The nigiri tasted better than the maki rolls and sashimi was good quality. In terms of the entrees, i got the spicy tenderlion and it was not spicy. I liked the sesame seed crust though. My bf got the salmon teriyaki. It was good but not amazing. Dessert was ok. We got a banana peanut butter popsicle which was bomb, apple pie cream puff was good but there was this other cookie like dessert and it tasted stale af. Love the fresh fruit added to the dessert. We also got some cocktails which i very much enjoyed. I would not pay a la carte for this and nor come back for AYCE. Service was great but it honestly was not worth the money. Thanks!

Connect with users posting reservations for Zuma Boston

AppointmentTrader is a community-driven platform where users can exchange their reservations or leverage their personal relationships with Zuma Boston. Buyers can make informed decisions using automated seller ratings, which reflect past transactions and reliability.

Each posting on AppointmentTrader shows you which user submitted it and along with that provides a trackrecord of that user which indicates how much experience the user has and how many percent of their transactions resulted in them issuing a refund.

If there is no user posting that fits your schedule, you can bid on your preferred time.

Let's say Peter has a great morning and decides to take his three friends to Zuma Boston at 6 PM the same day.

He checks the restaurant's website and sees that no reservations are available. He then looks at the Zuma Boston page on AppointmentTrader, but finds that there are no user postings either.

That's where the community-driven bid process comes in.

Peter can place a bid on AppointmentTrader, which serves as a reward for any community member who chooses to work on securing the reservation. AT then notifies experienced users who may be able to help.

Step-by-Step Process
1.) Setting a Reward (Bid)
* AppointmentTrader uses historical data to recommend a reasonable reward amount for securing a reservation - let's say $100.
* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $200.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.

2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* ElaborateHouse74, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* ElaborateHouse74 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to ElaborateHouse74 for any questions Peter may have as ElaborateHouse74 user fills the bid.

3.) Finding the Reservation
* ElaborateHouse74 now uses their connections at Zuma Boston to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If ElaborateHouse74 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.

4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, ElaborateHouse74 receives the $200 reward which is credited to ElaborateHouse74's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at Zuma Boston!
* As with all transactions on AT, disputes and no-show fees are handled through the platform's community-driven resolution system. Users with a strong track record are incentivized to fulfill bids successfully, and community members can report issues to maintain trust in the marketplace.
