Fitzroy Paris Reviews from The Last Year
This review is for Sunday brunch.
Two of us. We were looking for a place within walking distance of our hotel that didn't need reservations and we were easily able to get in here, where we sat at the bar. Friendly service. Wonderful drinks. Husband loved his breakfast burrito. Which is why I'm giving them 4 stars. If I had based it off what I ordered it would definitely be lower, but I'll blame myself for ordering wrong. Although the menu was super misleading to call what I got Chilaquiles. What showed up in front of me was a giant pile of unappealing Nachos. They were thick greasy chips with scrambled eggs, and other things that might be good if you're wasted at 3am, but on my first drink before noon, just not my thing. Fortunately Husband was a fan, and graciously gave up half of his terrific burrito to me in return. Really recommend they look up what Chilaquiles should be and either change the way it's prepared or change the name on the menu to Breakfast Nachos. (which I would never have ordered). (see pic)

We were promptly seated when we entered The Fitzroy at 2:30 and we were given a menu. I was not expecting much when I went in The Fitzroy for my first time. I was expecting less when I looked at their limited lunch menu of chicken wings, pretzel, chicken sandwich, burger, vegetarian sandwich, or a Caesar salad. Leaving did cross my mind more than once as I considered the six basic choices for lunch. Then as I looked around I could painly see I was in a bar and not a restaurant. They had two long bars and one row of booths and tables. I decided on a bar burger, which for whatever reason, they called their Fitzroy Burger. According to their menu description, it was just a regular cheeseburger on a brioche bun. We order a pretzel for an appetizer. It came with a sharp cheddar cheese sauce and mustard dip. The pretzel wasn't anything special. It had a good warm taste but I prefer more salt on my pretzel than this one had on arrival. Our main orders of burgers and wings were served to us as soon as possible. The brioche bun on my Fitzroy Burger had been steamed and was still warm. The hamburger was surprisingly delicious, and so were the fries that came with it. One of our burgers was on ciabatta bread. The ciabatta bread was warm and fresh, and without an upcharge. The side Caesar salad was also tasty. Our waitress was very effiecient and she continued to check on us and refill our water glasses. This was an unexpected pleasant lunch experience for me and the others at my table. I am looking forward to returning for another lunch time experience, when I am in need of a bar burger and fries. I did notice a change in their kitchen staff at 3pm. Maybe this was their shift change time for their kitchen staff.
I had high hopes for this restaurant to surpass the reviews.
It was a nice restaurant with a good ambiance and great service that unfortunately did not follow through with the food. The appetizer, Short Rib Rolls, and drinks were the best part of the meal. I would recommend that appetizer and the Pear Mule. We got the Short Rib sandwich, side of Brussels, salmon, and a side of kale Caesar salad. The short rib sandwich was underwhelming and could've benefited from toasted bread and an aioli but the sweet potato fries that came with it were good. The side of Brussels was unfortunate. It had good flavor but was severely overdone leaving them quite mushy. The salmon was dry and very fishy and the sides to it were bland. The kale Caesar came without kale but had a nice lemon Caesar dressing. I would recommend this place for the drinks as the Pear Mule was very tasty and the bartender was friendly. They have quick service and are open until 2am. We were disappointed with the poor food outcome but if that improved could see this place being a highly recommended spot.

tried two different draft beers and they both had that funky taste that happens when the taps aren't cleaned in too long. Can selections were only two domestic light beers. Some of the food was good but the wings were overcooked. Atmosphere is very loud and exho-y.
Went to the Fitzroy and the service was good.
We sat at the bar because there was no seating at the time. It was about the middle of the day and they didn't take too long. I liked the food, not a big fan of the avocado, but I did enjoy the rest and loved the eggs.
Love the Fitzroy bar.
They are so accommodating whether party of 1 or 6. Every snack I've ever ordered was A+
Located on the Downtown Mall.
Great elevated bar food for dinner. Check out the steak frites, perfectly med rare 8oz NY strip with bearnaise butter and great hand cut fries. The thick cut pork chop is also excellent. Its big, brined and pan roasted, served with some rosemary. Fitzroy as a small, but excellent drinks selection. If you like G&Ts, I recommend the house tonic with Hendrick's and muddled citrus. Prices are reasonable given the quality and location. Service was excellent. Apps: Reservations via Resy. Online ordering via Toast.

We're visiting Charlottesville for the night and decided to stop here for dinner. We made reservations which are a must, the restaurant was very packed and busy which makes sense for a Friday night in a college town. We sat at the high top tables across the bar because those were the only seats available at the time and let me tell you - this place is a hot spot for UVA students. Our reservation was at 7:30 but it was LOUD the entire time. We could barely hear each other over dinner and we kept getting pushed and shoved by younger students the whole time so we could barely enjoy our meal. I totally get it's a college area and downtown is the spot to be, but I wouldn't recommend The Fitzroy if you are looking to have a nice meal and good conversation because you won't be able to hear over the screaming and yelling. The food was pretty good, we ordered the fried chicken, house salad, and burger - the fried chicken was really good but I was disappointed because the burger came out ~10 minutes after the fried chicken and it was cold. It wasn't even warm, it was cold to touch and seemed like it was just left to sit there for a long time which was disappointing to say the least...
Food great.
Service good. Very nice ambiance. Would go back. Chicken and waffle portions huge.
I had the chicken-strips and highly recommended, although I
I had the chicken-strips and highly recommended, although I believe it would be better with an complementary sauce that appeases the dish. We did have trouble thought (I was with my family)with the steak being over cooked, but they quickly replaced it once it was brought to there attention. Thank you for the delicious food!
