Kaya's Kawanui Inc Kealakekua Reviews from The Last Year
This is a gluten free paradise! I went back multiple times
This is a gluten free paradise! I went back multiple times on my visit to Kona - I tried three different types of quiche which all had tender flakey crusts, the lemon bar which also had a great crust, s'mores granola bar (yum!), haupia chocolate raspberry pie (delish), a savory scone and blueberry scones. It's rare to find a place that has that many gluten free options and doesn't taste gluten free! This will be my go to on my future visits! Plus everyone who worked there was really friendly and helpful.
We found this spot on our drive around the island.
Great little local place with solid offerings and a fun atmosphere. The barista was great, very friendly and offered to add additional coconut syrup if it wasn't enough. Iced mocha was spot on and the americano was great. The banana bread was the topper, delicious with a ton of flavor. Local guy was setting up for music but we were on our way and missed him. Great vibe at this place.

Cute little shop, but there should be some expectation for
Cute little shop, but there should be some expectation for the workers. My wife and I walked up to the register to order, waiting for us what a young lady who appeared to not care if we ordered there or not. The amount of yawning that the cashier had was excessive. She did not greet us and just looked off to the side, so we started ordering by saying items which she started touching the monitor. All the while not saying a word to us since her continuous yawning seemed to be taking over focus. But when some excitable patrons came in to the side of us we actually seen a smile while the cashier wanted to be connected with the side conversation while taking our order. I get the whole coffee shop vibe and all, my wife and I were interested in trying many of the shops, but this place felt like you were an inconvenience.
I liked that they were open earlier than some of the other
I liked that they were open earlier than some of the other coffee spots. Staff there were super nice and helpful, always a plus for me. It's a cute rustic place that sells local items as well. Coffee was strong and good, I love that they used ice cubes made from coffee in my iced latte. They do have a good mjx of milks and not just half n half. They do not offer any sugar free flavors syrups but they have Splenda. I ordered a few bakery items and none of they were a disappointment but the Greek quiche was my favorite. (Not pictured but also had the banana berry granola and banana choc muffin)
Service is great; someone should teach these young cheerful
Service is great; someone should teach these young cheerful employees how to barista. At $8 per cup; served too hot, no foam and really bad coffee! This is the land of Kona Coffee, serve it with pride. Secondly, this menu really is strange. After sixty years of great vegetarian food served up around the world; these guys can do better. Yikes. Bean burger Pattie is dry, and carb overload. What's the issue here? Prices are high and quality is low! No need to return. Either just do breakfast or just do lunch; really well. Open 6-2, breakfast and coffee menu, a suggestion. Good luck.
Everything I tried here is great.
I love the coffee and baked goods and down to earth feel
Great coffee, decent breakfast.
We got the Pete's breakfast and breakfast sandwich - both had fresh ingredients but lack a bit of flavor
Popped in for a quick breakfast before the SoKA artist
Popped in for a quick breakfast before the SoKA artist studio tour and had a nice meal. Boho coffee n homemade goodies with a clientele that are friendly, no one wearing shoes, and someone playing a guitar. Locals are dropping in with their dogs and kids and it feels fantastic. Even the lizards are friendly and 2 came onto our table begging for food and joined us for breakfast, excellent manners :) They have baked goods out on display and there is a menu for cooked foods, bagel sandwiches etc. I plumped for the greek quiche, even though it was gluten free it didn't taste like it. Creamy, full of tangy olives and feta, it was delicious. The lizard's fave too. My friend ordered an avocado bagel which was tasty and piled high. The coffee was excellent and my decaf was soooo good. I would definitely recommend this boho coffee house for excellent coffee and home baked goods that include vegan and gluten free and decaf. Looking out for those who have special diets so we can feel normal :)
We found out about Kaya's during our latest visit to Kona.
This trip was different because of my new diagnosis with celiac disease. I was thrilled to find out that Kaya's offers a large variety of gluten free baked goods and breakfast items. The servers were knowledgeable of celiac disease and gluten restrictions. They informed me that their toaster is not celiac safe since it's a shared toaster. I still ordered many scones and baked goods to try during our visit. I did not have any celiac reactions after eating and drinking coffee at Kaya's. My family and husband, none of which have gluten restrictions, loved everything offered here. We returned several times during our visit and will be telling all our friends too!
We stopped here on our way back to Volcano National Park.
The coffee was exceptional and they make coffee iced cubes. The service was wonderful and the girls working were very pleasant. The inside of the store was very cute with different locally made items from the island.
Awesome vegan-friendly cafe with tons of delicious baked
Awesome vegan-friendly cafe with tons of delicious baked goods! The display cases were full of treats, and everything was well labeled with vegan/gluten free indicators. I tried their s'mores brownie and coconut macaroon, both of which were all vegan and super delicious. The items were not labeled with prices but the lady at the counter was super friendly and helped me figure everything out. Highly recommend!
Fantastic coffee and skilled baristas.
We came here every morning for our caffeine fix!
Delicious espresso latte, on par with the best in Seattle.
Yummy desserts for those with dairy or gluten allergies (even if you're a gluten lover). Lots of local art for sale, I picked up some unique postcards for $2 each.
