Morimoto Asia Honolulu Reviews from The Last Year
Dined here for a birthday and although the service was good
Dined here for a birthday and although the service was good all of the food was TOO SWEET. The dishes are well presented but overpriced for what they are. There were sauces on everything but again there was so much sweetness to the sauces that it was overwhelming. The garlic green beans were overcooked, wilted and not crispy and too sweet. I'm going to say there is nothing outstanding here...go to any side street Chinese restaurant for dinner and save $200.
We had a terrific experience at Morimoto Asia.
We stopped in for dinner on our last night in Waikiki to celebrate our engagement. The menu looked amazing, and it was so hard to decide. We split quite a few dishes: the hot and sour soup, spicy wontons, fish carpaccio, tuna pizza, Mapo tofu, pork ribs, and the pork belly yakisoba lo mein. Our server was terrific and kind, provided some great recs and was kind enough to bring out some sake for us to celebrate our engagement. the place was popping on Saturday night. The hot and sour soup was amazing to start out, followed by the delicious wontons. The carpaccio was pretty good as well, which is saying a lot since I am not a fish person. The tuna pizza was loved by my fiancé. Mapo tofu was hearty and the sauce was thicker than expected, plentiful tofu. We only had a couple bites of our lo mein as we were stuffed at this point, and took it to go. We had it cold for lunch the next day before our flight and it was still just as good as the night before. We also got the chocolate sphere for dessert which was fun to watch but nothing special dessert wise, just ice cream and chocolate.
Really can't believe a chef like Morimoto would attach him
Really can't believe a chef like Morimoto would attach him name to this restaurant. We ordered a bottle of his signature Junmai Daiginjo sake, of which I can say the $30 Kubota version is so much better and Kubota Manju, which is similar price is in another atmosphere compared to Morimoto's. I ordered their $100 steak which I read rave reviews about. It came out so over salted it was inedible the remake was completely tasteless, such a waste i didn't even eat half of it. The Hamachi Carpaccio was amazing as was the Szechuan green beans. The table side old fashioned was delicious as well. All in all, a complete waste of time and money though as bill with tip was $400 and I could've had a better meal for a quarter of that somewhere else. The waiter was fantastic and attentive without being around too much so we still tipped him 25%.
Food was great.
A Wagyu appetizer roll and a wagyu rice dish for the main were the standouts. The bar service mostly lacked service. The gal was busy making drinks for other servers and didn't pay much attention to the diners. Dishes arrived and the dirty dishes weren't cleared....drinks weren't refilled or checked on....i asked about wine, she didn't have a recommendation. She told the table next to us she didn't like shrimp or scallops....Waikiki is no Vegas hospitality but at Morimoto, I expected more.
The service was friendly, warm, and kind and the food
The service was friendly, warm, and kind and the food (overall) was decent. The stand-outs for me were the crispy branzino and the (full) roasted duck. I was a bit disappointed the tortillas for the duck were not similar to the chun-bing style of (far, far thinner) tortillas than what we generally receive at restaurants that specialize in this type of duck preparation, but it was an overall hearty meal and quite delicious regardless. The ribs we ordered for appetizers were, unfortunately, a bit cold near the center of the bone, but everything else we ordered tasted fine. Shoutout to the staff - the food was alright but the service and staff made the meal and experience way better.
Beautiful views and excellent service.
The wagyu appetizer was fantastic. The rest of the food was good but not spectacular. Definitely recommend
Amazing, I can't say it enough don't miss out on this
Amazing, I can't say it enough don't miss out on this experience. My hubby and I had our 10th anniversary dinner here and were extremely taken care of. They personalized everything and each server, busier, food runner even congratulated us. Those little moments plus the excited made it a wonderful night. Thank you! Sticky ribs amazing! A5 specials were mouthwatering!
The food was very classy and delicious, would only
The food was very classy and delicious, would only recommend for fancy occasion and gathering. I would highly recommend the Peking duck and the angry lobster dish. The orange chicken and fried rice were average, nothing to scream about. Customer service was amazing but there was a wait time to get seated. So please make your reservations.
Just a beautiful restaurant with exquisite setting and well
Just a beautiful restaurant with exquisite setting and well trained staff! We were lucky to be seated in the "party room" facing Waikiki beach. It's also the coolest, temperate part of the restaurant! My " clean & fresh" mocktail was delicious. We particularly enjoyed the whole fish, crispy ribs, edamame, the gyoza and the full sized maladadas for dessert. I would pass on the orange chicken.
Went for our wedding anniversary.
We had a few drinks in our room over looking the beach and then walked over. We were a little early and were seated in the bar in time for happy hour. Ordered a few more drinks and were seated for dinner. We had a LOVELY view of the ocean. We ordered the Tuna Pizza for my husband and I ordered the Crispy Whole fish. We shared both. The Tuna Pizza was nice. The fish was fresh and it was very nice... then they brought me the Crispy Whole Fish and my eyes went wide! The server nicely offered to chop it's head off and took it away and OH MY GOD it was so good. It was so good that we flew back to Kona and I called to ask what kind of fish it was. They told me it was Chilean sea bass. Makes my mouth water thinking about it. We had a great time and the food was amazing!
Great Food
This was one of the best restaurants we experienced while on the island. The food was delicious and the service was great. The restaurant is very nicely designed and works well for couples or groups. Definitely recommend, you won't be disappointed.
Delicious Food, Great Atmosphere!
This restaurant is a favorite of ours. We first tried it in Disney Springs and it was our kids' FAVORITE restaurant. When we realized there was a Hawaii location, we had to go! The orange chicken is my favorite and everyone really loved the A5 Surf & Turf Sushi roll. They don't have a kid's menu, but they have kid options. I would love to see them add a kids menu similar to what is in Disney Springs.
Top dinner
Everything we ordered was great. One of the best meals we had in the city. Our waiter gave great suggestions. The carpaccio melted in your mouth. Great dinner, friendly service, and great atmosphere.
Excellent views and good food
A great evening with excellent service from the waiting staff Ke-Von and Ace for support. The ambiance is fantastic with outside sitting overseeing the ocean. The food especially appetizers when to die for. My main course was fair but not anything I would go for again. I had the shrimp pad thai. (Generous on the shrimp and tofu). Overall, if you want some elegance and relaxation with friends this is a good place to eat.
Wonderful restaurant
The food was amazing! We had the Kung Pao Cauliflower, we highly recommend. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, wonderful staff, our server Lauraline was the absolute best!
Lackluster.
I was absolutely disappointed. This restaurant is completely underwhelming. Our order was sent to the wrong table, and the patrons picked it up and gave it back to the server. She then placed it on our table and said she was new. and sorry. This is not how you run a restaurant at any level. Our waitress apologized and said she was new. Lame. We ordered the black cod and vegetable stir fry. It was average to just above average. The restaurant was very loud as well. It's not a great ambiance. However, the saving grace was the water guy, Ace. Who, by the way, had been there two weeks, he also was new and did an excellent job. My advice is don't waste your time. There are so many other amazing restaurants to choose from in the area.
Incredible dining experience
This restaurant ticks all the boxes - incredible food, beautifully set out and fantastic service. We went three times during our stay and loved it each time. All the food we ordered was delicious and the presentation was amazing. Cocktails were fabulous too. This is a must do while in Waikiki.
Fresh and quality dinner
A place with an excellent, elegant and sober atmosphere, fresh and tasty food, recommended for a romantic dinner
Underwhelming
Perhaps we had unrealistic expectations, but if you can manage to disappoint eight out of eight diners something is off. For me, it was that there is MSG in everything but the salad and edamame. I had salad so I figured I could manage dessert. Tiramisu was trying so hard to be edgy and different that it was okay, but definitely missed being tiramisu. Presentation was special, service was above average. Decor was giant posters of food items that I guess was supposed to look modern, but didn't hit the right note for me. Perhaps some other locations are better done, but you will have to try them for yourself. I won't be back.
Happy hour and dinner
We started with happy hour many reviews saying it was good and it was , we then went into the dining area. I think my expectations of Morimoto's may have been high as although it was good it didn't blow us away. We found the orange chicken ok but the grilled miss black cod was what we expected of Morimoto's it was awesome great flavors. The table next to us got told specials we weren't ? My wife booked saying it was my birthday no mention from anyone I guess they don't read the booking emails?
