More than a expected from a Michelin restaurant
A small restaurant tucked into a side street near central Logrono. Close to but a world away from the typical La Rioja pintxos crawl but many of the same delicious flavors. I arrived slightly late but service was warm and friendly. We got through with my limited Castilian and their less limited English with all of us smiling. Menu options abound and essentially I created my tasting from the specials of the day and items from the a la crate menu. The chef graciously offered to reduce portion sizes so I wouldn’t be stuffed and I am thankful for that kindness. Wine list has extensive choices and I picked a Rioja blanco from the deeper end of the white wine menu - 2019 Rodan. I’ve never seen this in the USA so it was a well reasoned splurge. The anchoas with roasted piquillo peppers and the best olive oil I’ve had in a very long time started things and they are impressed. Dense texture. Amazing meaty flavors. If you think you don’t like anchovies you need to try these. Roast cebollas (onions) on potato purée - I cannot explain the delight this dish sets off in words. It’s a soaring mixture of flavors. The onion bursts with deliciousness. A must try. The eggplant was also exception. The main course - grouper - was a masterpiece. Cooked perfectly and bursting with oceanic flavor. I could have easily eaten more of this. The desert in chose was almond ice cream with an almond pastry. Incredibly Spanish and a highlight of the meal. I paired it with PX sherry and coffee. It’s impossible to review this restaurant- I’ve run out of superlatives. I hope to rerun soon to be served graciously by extremely talented chefs. Very highly recommended
