Ristorante Puny Portofino Reviews from The Last Year
Dinner at Puny, Portofino Italy
Dinner is Okay, but not as nice as when Mr Puny was around. Food is still okay, but we come to Puny for more than just food, not sure if it’s worth all the way from Santa Margaritas
Quick lunch in Portofino, it could have been much better
Quick lunch, nice weather outside. We had 2 typical linguine with pesto. Too much cooked the pasta. 2 pasta, 1 water, 1 coffee, 1 glass of wine: 87€. A little bit too much for the quality of service and food. Well positioned but a bit more “warm welcome” attitude of the staff and a smile, it doesn’t cost so much.
Very good food and service! Frost might in Portafino and we
Very good food and service! Frost might in Portafino and we did well with this choice.
Amazing Lunch
We had a great experience. Whole sea bream for 2 was fresh and cooked to perfection. The service was first class with a good choice of reasonable wines. Enjoyed it so much we went back for dinner and again excellent.
Biz dinner for 14
Dinner for 14 people on a Friday night in Portofino. I have been before, very attentive & typical Italian high end staff. The menu was a bit limited IMHO but the food was very good. And of course very expensive.
Don’t go here
Bottom line up front….his place seemed like a tourist trap and not good at all for the price. Here’s a breakdown…. 1) Atmosphere: 1 Star. You’re inside a plastic awning that has sides that retract up and down. There are potted plants around the edges but there looked as tho they hadn’t been maintained very well. The seating is on a fairly steep slope so our table and chairs were awkwardly at an angle. There was also a stray cat wandering in and out of the kitchen. 2) Food: 3 Stars. My wife had the veal which came out with skinny French fries. That was a little weird because in the description on the menu it didn’t mention anything about fries. The veal was cooked well and the gravy over top was flavorful. I had the prawns which were cooked well and the presentation was good. Flavor was just so so. Pretty much just garlic butter. Tasted like I cooked it. I also had the curry pappardelle. I thought it tasted interesting. The curry was super subtle. My wife thought it tasted “weird”. My friend had the Spaghetti and clams which he said was super flavorful. Our other friend had the Frittamista which was fried calamari, red prawns and anchovies. Her words, “not yummy”. 3) Service: 1 Star. I saved the best for last. The servers seemed angry and agitated. We asked them to split our bill. Which they happily did. Except the two halves didn’t happen to add up to the whole bill. Fortunately we caught it. When I approached them, the absolutely looked guilty and quickly fixed the error. However, we all felt like this was something they may regularly do and wasn’t an honest mistake. So make sure you check your bill.
Does not pay to visit
By comparison with our previous visit in 2017 it’s like day and night: service on low level, food like in cheap trattoria. Oh, yes only the high price left from old famous time.
Outstanding
There was one vegan in our group. She was offered the pasta pomodoro and the mixed salad as the only vegan option. However, she enjoyed both dishes very much. The pasta was very light and delicious and for the mains, I ordered a dover sole on the bone. It was cooked beautifully. The desserts however, were the star of the show. I ordered the tiramisu which had its own twist put on it by the restaurant. It was the best dessert I have ever tried in a restaurant, along with the apple pie which was served with ice cream. Overall, a wonderful experience with food and service of perfection. Many thanks to our waiter, GianCarlo.
We dined at Puny on a Wednesday night.
Our reservation was originally for 8:30 but we bumped it up to 7:30 because we had just flown in to Italy that day and were super tired. The restaurant opens at 7:30 so it was pretty dead when we were seated but the ambiance really kicked into gear around 8/8:30. The outdoor seating area has a wonderful view of the harbor and is in a great location. For dinner I had the Pappardelle Portofino which was good but I was expecting it to be more pesto forward and less of a cream sauce. My husband started with the pesto pasta and got the veal with lemon juice which was delicious. Definitely recommend this restaurant, but be sure to make a reservation!
Disappointing
Initially the service was great, food was very nice but not exceptional. After we had our starter staff seemed to ignore us, we had to ask for the desert menu and asked for some cheese, the waiter suggested not to bother as their cheese is not good and our bill was dropped on our table before we had finished our meal. We had been really looking forward to a special meal but the restaurant fell well short of the reviews that we had read and left us feeling disappointed with the evening.
