A wonderful anniversary meal
While enjoying our trip to Boston, my wife and I also celebrated our 41st anniversary, so we decided to splurge for a top-notch meal. Ruth's Chris in Boston succeeded very, very well. Service by TJ was very good. We started with a glass of the Riesling, a slightly off-dry wine that was very pleasant on the palate. We then each ordered the fixed price meals. My wife had the Caesar salad, along with the 6 oz sirloin, served medium rare, and a lobster tail. She loved the steak and worked hard on her lobster to get out most of the meat. She shared her side of garlic mashed potatoes with me. I had the lobster bisque to start. The bisque was very tasty, but I would have liked it a little hotter. I also had the 6 oz sirloin, served medium, along with three medium-large shrimp. My steak was wonderful! I shared my side of creamed spinach with my wife. For dessert, we both had a very smooth, very light tasting cheesecake. Absolutely one of the top meals we've ever had. Considering our bill, with tax and tip, came to over $240, we expected nothing less.
Be the first to ReplyToo many other great steakhouses in Boston…
There are too many good steakhouses in Boston to waste your money here. Albeit I sat at the bar, when the Caesar salad is the best part of the dinner at an allegedly high end steakhouse, something is seriously wrong. The quality of the $65 strip was equal to what you find at one of the chain restaurants, Texas Steakhouse, Texas Roadhouse, etc., take your pick, for twice the price. Chewy, zero flavor. Close to my hotel and it was raining so wasn’t up to a big walk, but lesson learned…

Excellent Steakhouse in a unique setting! Very nice address in Boston discovered by chance during my trip as part of the 2024 marathon. I recommend 👍🏻
Be the first to ReplyNice for a quite special dinner.
Always classy, they have an extended wine and liquor selection trying new things is always nice. Service is what you would expect from this caliber of restaurant . Set in a very historic building .
Be the first to ReplyOlive Garden level service
It's very sad because we've really enjoyed this restaurant for very special occasions. It's really gone downhill fast. When you are spending this much on a meal, the little things matter a lot. On this visit, we waited 50 minutes for our meal. All three of our entrees were off - the medium ribeye was well done, the medium well filet was medium rare, and the medium filet was medium well. Two of the three weren't even close. When the waitperson finally checked on us, she didn't even offer to fix anything, just said she'd ask the manager if they could comp some of the bill, and then we didn't see her again until we were almost finished. At the end they comped us the inedible filet and gave us a free desert. At least the sides were good. But it's just not what it used to be, and isn't worth it. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that it was bought by the company that owns Olive Garden. It was definitely Olive Garden level service.

Delightful meal in a beautiful environment. Service was first class. Ver impressed wi the steak and lamb chops. We never felt rushed and our evening couldn’t have been better.
Be the first to ReplyQuality has declined since being sold to Darden Restaurants.
Wow! I have never seen a restaurant go down hill so quickly. I'm writing this in September 2023. The restaurant chain was sold in May 2023 to Darden Restaurants. The difference in quality is shocking. My steak was dry and tough. My wife had to send her steak back to be properly cooked. The mash potatoes were so runny when I took a bite, it spilled on my tie like milk. The beer was flat. $240 meal for two. We could have gotten a better meal for less than half at some chain like Outback. We both agreed we will never go back to Ruth Chris and this makes us sad because it used to be such a wonderful experience.
Be the first to ReplyNo the greatest steak in town
Had a dinner with a family of 9 The food was ok but nothing to write home about The Steak Fillet medium was a bit dry The food came out of the kitchen very slowly 4 desert came out after 20 minutes so some of us had to leave Staff was nice but not the most professional
Be the first to ReplyGreat food
Dinner was lovely but had asked for medium rare steak and got a medium steak. It was very tasty. Lobster matched the steak great too!
Be the first to ReplyRuth’s Chris is a consistent award winner.
Ruth’s Chris is always a winner. Consistently good food and fantastic service at all locations. The prices are high, but the food quality is definitely there for the price. Steaks or something or you gonna cut them with a fork. Only reason for the four-star review rather than five is because they have multiple course meals but only a few sides available on that package. Even though all signs are the same price on the menu they won’t let you choose the side you would like with the multicourse meal option.

Fabulous atmosphere and service. Situated in the old city hall. Fantastic starters and nicely cooked meat and fish. Fine
Be the first to ReplyBest meal I had in a long time !
We had the fillet and lobster , creamy mash , mushrooms and creme brûlée for dessert . All absolutely superbly cooked and in a beautiful historical setting . I had been to Ruth’s in San Diego , but this one was a different league !

Steven Bonacorsi and Girlfriend enjoyed our 1-year Anniversary dinner at Ruth Chris Steak House at the Old State House in Downtown Boston, we sat outside near the Graveyard were Edgar Allen Poe rests in peace. Or does he? The food was incredible, the service outstanding, the wine was awesome. They sprinkled Happy Anniversary messages on the table, Valet Parking right out front, we had a surprise desert, check out the pictures. Thank you so much

Had an amazing dinner Saturday night in the bar area. Our server Amy made my sons bday so special. She brought out a wonderful chocolate cake to celebrate. My filet was cooked perfectly and Amy’s wine suggestion was perfect. We will definitely be back to see Amy and have more delicious food.
Be the first to ReplyAn OK steakhouse; inconsistent and expensive.
Sometimes excellent; sometimes very poor. For a crapshoot, it’s an expensive place. We did a wine dinner a month ago (Daou) and the food was consistently excellent. Tonight we did a wine dinner (Caymus) and two supposedly hot courses were room temperature or still refrigerator chilled. Room temperature pork belly with dollops of chilled mashed potatoes. Room temperature scallops. The steak was flavorful, but everything glad was weak. And the bill for 2 was $333. This included about 2 glasses of wine apiece (4 half glasses). We left feeling ripped off. On balance, there are more consistent steakhouses in Boston to spend your money at.
Be the first to ReplyUnfortunately not what I remembered or had experienced!
Hadn’t eaten here in several years and the memories were A+, however, after Saturday’s dinner and service, hard pressed to give a B. Potato arrived semi warm within minutes if ordering, salads sparse and appeared to have been sitting for a period of time prior to our orders being placed. Crab cakes more like whipped potatoes than “cakes”. Having been disappointed with apps and potato we decided to forego an entrees and settled bill. Not the “special” dining experience we anticipated, I had remembered. Definitely average with precooked, assembled and no regards for special requests due to dietary needs.
Be the first to ReplyLoved the Building!
Steak was AMAZING. Location was convenient. I loved the historical elements of the area. Right on the Freedom Trail! Service was as good as I’d expect for the price point. Yes - it’s not an inexpensive meal!

My man had been to Ruth's before and said as a cattle rancher, I needed to experience Ruth's Chris steak. Best steak ever. Staff was so great and the building makes the entire eating experience memorable. Recommend the Ruth's chop salad, a salad like no other. We both ordered the filet and if you like blue cheese, must get the blue cheese crust on your steaks. Au Gratin potatoes weren't the best, but good. Bar drinks were mixed perfectly. Finished off with yummy creme Brulee. Amazing dinner to wrap up our Boston trip.
Be the first to ReplyFood Extraordinaire! Chris the GM and Sarah our waitress were WONDERFUL!
It's hard to beat a Ruth's Chris Steak anywhere........they're simply the best. And consistent from location to location. Being from the Beef Capital of the World - Kansas City - I commented on my reservation how disappointed I was that Ruth's Chris Left the KC Area about 5 years ago! And, now that we're in Boston for my wife's "Birthday Week", we were definitely coming in for dinner. Chris, the GM, saw my message and immediately came up to the table, introduced himself and thanked us for being there. We had a great conversation and, due to our circumstances, bought us an appetizer. Being that my wife and I couldn't agree on which appetizer, tho, he went ahead and bought us two! We shared an excellent bottle of wine, as recommended by Sarah, and then had our meal. I had the Lobster Bisque and then a filet and lobster tail for my main entree. Mine was on the prefix list so everything I got was only $82 plus it came with a dessert. My wife had a filet with a baked potato. EVERYTHING WAS FABULOUS!!
Be the first to ReplyIt’s all about the fillet
Ruth Chris is one of my wife’s favourite steak restaurants, and the Boston one didn’t disappoint. It’s a great location inside Old City Hall! Front of house and waiter where friendly as expected. We shared a BBQ Shrimp for starters, followed by a petite filet and a normal filet, both cooked perfectly medium, with a side of garlic mash. The steaks are excellent! Shared desert of Chocolate sin cake was a lovely ending to a wonderful meal
Be the first to ReplyNot worth it
Not worth the $$. Very overrated. Steak was good, but the sides were bland. Service was terrible. Waiter forgot my wine and coffee. Restaurant wasn’t even busy.
