Saladang Pasadena Reviews from The Last Year
Had lunch here today with a friend.
We have not eaten here in over 12 years. Only two other tables with diner's at 12:00 lunch time. Waitress gave us the regular menu. No lunch special menu or the drink menu. I had to get them myself from a small table. The men's room needs better maintenance. Ordered the Fried calamari, Green Curry with Pork, Chicken Sate. Cat fish fillet and a Coconut Shrimp soup. The Calamari was too chewy. We returned it. We ordered the Chicken Sate. It was good. TheGreen Curry I ordered it Mild. The Pork was very tough, like shoe leather. I could not eat much of it. I ate the Eggplant and vegetables with the brown rice. The food quality has really gone through some changes, but not for the better. Ambiance and Service was subpar. The waitress was not very friendly. Parking: Shared parking lot. There are better options and a better value in the greater San Gabriel Valley. We spent $85.00 with Tip included for this experience today. Overall Rating: 2 Stars
The food wasn't as great as I remember few years ago.
The pad Thai was super sweet, a lot of sauce and soggy! The soup Tom Yan was in a bowl instead a pot with fire, fried calamari had too much batter and thick, house special rice wasn't flavorful.. pretty much our lunch wasn't tasty and no Thai flavors.. I am disappointed about the service too, not as friendly . Ambiance is nice and kids friendly.. too bad that the food wasn't great.
The food was yummy and the outside is nice.
But the service was not the best...when we ordered the food it came, but they gave us orange chicken but we didn't order orange chicken and then the waiter said that my son ordered it but we heard that when he ordered he didn't say orange chicken. So the service was not the best, the food was good, and the outside is nice.
I had not been here in 20+ years!! It brought back a lot
I had not been here in 20+ years!! It brought back a lot of memories. I came by to try it out again to see if the flavors had stayed the same. I had ordered the Tom Yum soup with mushrooms and shrimps. It had that complex hot and sour kick of vinegar taste with the lemongrass flavor and the kiffir lime all blended in; the soup was full of flavor from the shrimps too. And I had also ordered the shrimp pad see ew and beef satay, which came with pickled cucumber slices and peanut sauce. The wide noodles were perfectly cooked and flavored with broccoli and egg mixture. And the beef satay was grilled perfectly, as well. It was everything I had remembered. I had service from two guys who were great checking up and making sure I had everything I needed. 5 stars for their great service, delicious food, and clean, well-lit ambiance. Thank you, Saladang team, for a memorable meal!!
Wow, what has happened to food quality at original
Wow, what has happened to food quality at original Saladang? This used to be the 'go to' place for Thai food. Sad to say that this has changed dramatically. I don't know if it was because it was a Wednesday, or the regular chef had the day off. My friend barely touched her food. My cashew nut, basil w/mixed fish was average. Sauce was watery and not very tasty. My how the mighty have fallen. I won't be returning.
I always loved this place, it was a bit of a distance
I always loved this place, it was a bit of a distance away, but the food was always fresh and delicious so it was worth it. However, I ordered takeout last night and picked it up about 1/2 hour before closing. The chicken was dry and the Pad See Ew noodles were all broken and stuck together. The food tasted different, nothing like the quality they were known for. I can't help but think they threw together leftovers from the day rather than make a fresh batch since they were so close to closing. I gave a 2 star because the veggies and sticky rice were good. Sorry to say i won't be going back and you should steer clear as well!
Good for groups
Plenty of free parking spots in the back of the restaurant. The inside is loud and the round table we had sat at was very spacious. I always order my favorite dish which is Chicken Pad Thai spicy level and vegetable fried rice spicy too. I tried my friend's Pork Belly dish and it was pretty good. The Pad Thai was very good and the portions were a good size and there was plenty of food to share.
We went to Saladang for lunch.
Be sure to order appetizers first, and maybe soup . Don't order the Entrees together other it all comes out at once and you don't really get to enjoy all the dishes because you are rushing to eat before the food gets cold. The food was very good , however the young gentleman had no etiquette and just dropped off the menus to begin without even saying anything. We had to ask so many times for water, and other condiments. Overall there was no greetings or explanation of the menu. They need to work a lot on their customer service. The service SUCKED! They also need to upgrade their chairs, the seat pads etc!
I've been a patron of Saladang for many years.
The Tom Yum soup is fantastic. On my last visit which was a take out order, the food quality really took a step backward. I ordered a yellow curry with chicken that was so bland that I thought it was chicken soup. The chicken ginger saute also suffered. They used fatty chicken thigh meat instead of chicken breast and once again they food was bland. The lesson learned is that this place is much better in person. Hopefully it will be better next time.
I've been trying to find amazing pad thai in Pasadena for
I've been trying to find amazing pad thai in Pasadena for awhile now but after eating the beef pad thai here, I'm just grateful that the other restaurants I've tried have been average/good. The pad thai I had here (takeout) had none of the usual flavors I love and instead had a bland, almost gross taste that made it barely edible. The beef was the best part and even that had a rubbery quality to it. They give a lot of egg with it but it's mostly flavorless. I hope this was a one time quality stumble but I'm not paying the high price to find out.
Place was clean and staff were friendly.
Food was great and service was exceptional. Will definitely recommend this place and will be back
Don't reserve for party more than 10.
They got bad costumer service and greedy business practice . They will loose your reservation and charge extra, when group is more than 24!. Don't even deserve a !!!
We've been going to Saladang since they opened in the
We've been going to Saladang since they opened in the 1990's. Back then, they were Pasadena's "it" restaurant and one of the best Thai restaurants around. The service, the food and the atmosphere of the building were amazing and they enjoyed a level of success for more than a decade that saw the restaurant packed with people every day and night on weekdays and especially on weekends. Fast forward to today and there are some stark differences. The once trendy looking decor is now worn and needs updating badly (holes in the faded tablecloths immediately make this very clear). The restaurant (and its sister restaurant, Saladang Garden) is now almost empty most of the time, even on weekends. The service has lost the friendliness and welcoming smiles of the original staff. Today, when we asked for our leftovers to be boxed-up, the waitress just dropped off containers at our table and we had to clumsily package everything on our own, even though we were only one of three tables being served at the time and waiters were standing about. The biggest difference from the old days is how inconsistent the taste and quality of the food has gotten. Some days everything is bland, the sauces are watered down or the wrong color and the beef is extremely tough and chewy. You can always tell the food won't be good by the lack of richness in the colors of the food. Sometimes the pad Thai is beige or light brown instead of being sauced nicely in an orange hue. Other times, the beef in the Basil and chili beef is cut large and the sauce is so watered down it doesn't cling to the overly large and chewy chunks of beef. Today, for Saturday lunch, the food was great. When Saladang prepares their dishes to their full potential, they do Thai as good as the best of them ((including restaurants in Thai town). The yellow curry tasted perfect with perfectly stewed pieces of tender chicken. The Basil and chili beef was also very flavorful and prepared well. The pad Thai stood out from all the other pad Thai's in a town full of them. The service today was a bit lacking but hopefully that too can swing to the good when the staff rotates for dinner. I really hope that Saladang can once again find the success it once enjoyed. Today reminded me that at their best, Saladang is still capable of being the best Thai restaurant in Pasadena and even in all of LA.
