So we brought a local friend to try this restaurant... fairly easy to find in the basement of a business building. So one floor down from street level. Elevator opens and you are greeted by one of the ladies who assists the chef. You walk through the traditional sliding door entrance and met by a simple room with about 12-14 places to sit in front of the chef. When we arrived as a party of 5 we were joined with 2 other couples dining so it was not full at that time. We all seemed to start the menu at the same time. They have a sommelier and amazing wine list. And we opted for an amazing French White to break through the oil (of which I may add in hindsight is not an issue... this is not oily tempura). We had our teens with us and thought there is no way they will enjoy everything and being a 1 star Michelin will probably create a stuffy atmosphere (we were wrong). 17 course tempura meal that every bite leaves you wanting a second helping. The simplicity is the art in which Seiju serves you tempura. Much like a sushi bar you are told when to dip and how to eat, the chef or assistant will let you know on the first bight nothing, second dip in lemon and salt, third dip in sauce. There are several courses to help you break up the tempura so it is not like all 17 courses were fried. But I must add nothing seemed fried, it was so dedicate and light in preparation. This truly was a meal of life time and worth the additional expense ( if that is your concern ). The most unique offering and this stems for my love for uni was sea urchin wrapped in shiso leaf lightly tempura batter. Another worth visiting and my kids favorite was what you may call in the South of America a corn fritter... but this was unlike any corn fritter ever. The server is flawless and orchestrated beautifully and what my thought was about the chef was completely wrong after we poured him a glass of our wine. He is fun, he interacted with my daughter and really made this experience less 'stuffy' and more memorable. I highly highly recommend this experience... the meal ends with an option for "kakiage" and you should get it Tendon style not Tencho... we had both. They are both good but the first is exceptional. Small portions and you will be full at the end... trust me!
