Silver Apricot New York Reviews from The Last Year
Wine bar with what I'd consider a Szechuan / Japanese
Wine bar with what I'd consider a Szechuan / Japanese fusion menu. Super thoughtful restaurant. Walked in on a weeknight and were seated immediately. Menu has about fifteen items. It's tapas style and everything was intriguing, so we decided to order the chef's choice tasting menu. Menu was one of the most creative I've encountered. It was a cold night, so we started with a cup of hot tea. They had a green tea and a red oolong. I had the green tea and was impressed with the quality which set high expectations for the meal. The first course included the scallion puffs, the deviled tea eggs, and the (I believe) squash salad. Puffs came with a green scallion butter which was pretty interesting. The tea eggs had a bold yet subtly smokey flavor. The salad might have been my favorite of the group. Vinegar and acid forward which balanced out the savory and saltiness of the other items in the first course. I also liked the textural contrast in the salad between the crisp squash and the crunchy crullers in the salad. Next came (intentionally) cold chicken with an herb sauce and chili oil. Sauce and oil were both very flavorful, so it was rather clever to serve the chicken cold which made it subdued allowing the other flavors to stand out. This dish was paired with toast topped with mayoed shrimp, roe, and (I believe) fennel. This was one of my favorite dishes. The structure and simplicity reminded me of a Pret sandwich but significantly elevated. Roe had a pleasant burst when biting into it. A mild flavor on the palate yet a surprisingly long finish. Next course was crispy fried rice along with sweet and sour snapper. I tasted eel with the fried rice but it appeared to be scallop. Definitely some oceanic flavor to it. Really liked the crispy bits. This was high on umami. The snapper was served over a carrot purée and topped with carrot and peppers. Second to last was the Mapo squash rice cakes. Rice cakes were soft and chewy yet had a crispy sear to them. As expected with a Mapo dish, it had spiciness to it. Another dish with some bold flavor. For dessert, we had the almond osmanthus cake with buttercream served with a pear sorbet. The sorbet had candied ginger providing a surprising brightness to the course. The sweetness was surprisingly mild making it an unexpected finish. Pacing of the courses was nice. Nice breaks in between to chat with your companion(s) and appreciate their wines. Service was helpful and accommodating. There was one gender neutral restroom. It was handicap accessible and had a Toto washlet toilet enhancing the experience.
What I love about Silver Apricot is the "let the chef
What I love about Silver Apricot is the "let the chef decide" option. We didn't have to think about what to order and we were served a bunch of selections from the menu to share, without the decision making. I appreciated that it led to me trying dishes I typically wouldn't order. The wine menu, particularly the natural wines, is very extensive. It seems like they rotate wines which is fun! The restaurant is small, though they have a back patio area. Reservations are easy to snag a few days in advance.
We liked everything we ate and found the dishes a little
We liked everything we ate and found the dishes a little inventive and non-traditional. The portions are not huge, but they were fine for splitting with another person and each getting a couple bites. We were a party of two and had 8 dishes (thats including dessert) and left full. We didn't need more, but could have tired one more thing if we wanted. With a glass of wine each our bill ended up $100 a person with tip. We ordered the Scallion Puffs, Mogwa Salad, Turnip Cakes, Mushoo Mushrooms, Mapo Squash Rice Cakes and the Buvette Steak. I would order all of it again, but my favorite was the Rice Cakes and my partner loved the Turnip Cake. The Mushoo Mushrooms were a close second and I also loved the Mogwa salad. The steak was under done for our taste, we like Medium Rare and I would say this was very rare/uncooked in the center. It tasted good, and I would order it again but ask for it to be slightly more done. The main reason I give Silver Apricot 4 instead of 5 stars is that the service was just fine - cool, not warm and inviting. It wasn't really a hospitality vibe, and I didn't feel like they were out to make us have the best night we could. It was more like, we are doing our job and thats enough. I feel like a warmer and more thoughtful and engaged service would really help make this a special night. The restaurant is cute and small and felt a touch Parisian in decor to me. Good for a date night, although not much privacy between tables (as a NYer I'm used to that). I definitely suggest going. I'm sure we will be back.

Terrific food, good cocktails, solid service -- highly recommend this excellent spot for a date night!
The food is okay but far too overpriced.
The scallion puffs are the only redeeming factor about my entire meal there. The Peking duck grilled cheese is 100% not worth the price, a complete rip-off (see attached). The crudo is completely average and is not all that special. The soy milk marinade flavor just doesn't come together all that much. If you decide to go just get the scallion puffs only.

We had a lovely meal, with amazing service, but the price/person of the family style menu did not provide enough food to leave us feeling satiated. We had also asked for a bottle of wine and gave the wait staff our price limit. When we got our bill, the bottle of wine was more expensive than what we had requested. I would return but pay closer attention to the prices and would not order family style.
Silver Apricot Food 8/10 An interesting take on Chinese
Silver Apricot Food 8/10 An interesting take on Chinese cuisine. It did taste good, a recombination of familiar flavors, but also the price tag that came along with makes me view this restaurant as a one-time experience. I really liked the chicken and scallion puffs, but I do also think there is no need to return when there are plenty of amazing restaurants in Chinatown that serve authentic Chinese food. Atmosphere 9/10 Gorgeously decorated interior, I loved the space. A very narrow and long restaurant, with not too many seatings. I liked the pillows. Service 9/10 Good service, nothing to complain about.

RUN DON'T WALK !! Everything we tried was to die for -- scallion puffs with butter, kampachi crudo, peking duck grilled cheese, scallop XO fried rice, and the mushrooms. I don't know how they do it, but everything is so flavorful and super creative. 11/10

Had the family tasting menu which were all Asian fusion inspired. Pretty creative and we're playing around with some unique flavors. The stars were the scallion bread with scallion butter and the teboki.

That's what AT sponsorships are for - and you are only paying 25% in the first year and then less in year two and three.
I beliebe @EternalAnt36 was sponsored by @PerceptiveWash44 and is now doing $25k/mo.
You can write on the top sellers profiles (type 'Top 10' in the searchbar) and then tap request sponsorship button after you found the guy or gal like to work with!
