Stucki Basel Reviews from The Last Year
A culinary dream.
I have been to Mrs Grandi's twice for lunch. It was always in the summer and I sat in her beautiful garden. It was incredibly delicious both times! Yesterday was the first time I went in the evening and ate in the restaurant. There was a menu with 9 courses that could be pimped up to 10, which I did 😄. The courses were a wonderful experience in terms of taste and appearance, really delicious. The whole team was also very friendly, professional and yet relaxed. I felt very comfortable, which is not always the case in such places. But here everything just fits. Highly recommended ❤️
A harmonious, enjoyable evening with exciting components and surprises
Culinary delights, a delight for the eyes and the palate, with friendly service and a harmonious atmosphere. The wine accompaniment would have been too much (the cost is also very high compared to the meal) 1 glass for two courses is more than enough. The caviar is definitely recommended!
Completely satisfied
We were there for lunch and ate a 3 or 4 course menu. We were completely satisfied. The service was friendly, the wine advice was competent and the food was excellent with exciting components. At the end we were greeted nicely at the exit.
Really? Where is the experience?
The hot towel had makeup stains on it, we didn't have any wine for one course despite it being accompanied by wine, the bill was wrong (too high) and when we left they wanted to give us the wrong coats... The book from her shop below is not signed... and when I asked for the dedication they said she was no longer there... Well... another experience... It was more like the train station restaurant in Basel... loud, 8:15 a.m. company with no table manners... can't hold cutlery and take the wine glass as if it were a cup at McDonald's... Restaurant etiquette is tempi passati. Sneakers, bleached jeans... uncombed and sloppy. You wouldn't get into some nightclubs like that... but you would at Stucki and Mrs Grandits. Service is heartless. Without empathy. The food looks good, although at this level (which one would like) we should pay more attention to detail.. 2 spinach leaves were on the wrong side... Anyone who boasts should pay attention to the environment. For me, that is also part of gastronomy... the environment and the ambience! It's 08:15 society. Giving money (if it is the case, as the majority of the guests were around 30) ruins a lot of things. We were served more cordially in simpler restaurants and ate better in terms of enjoyment. (Yippee!) Insufficient value for money.
You can, you don’t have to…
More show than substance. Food was top-notch Service was rather mediocre and seemed to be being delivered by machines (without character). The decor is not very loving but nice. Wine accompaniment without any digression. Too expensive for what is ultimately delivered.
Not enough ingenuity for two stars
The menu on the menu didn't sound particularly exciting. Rather normal, good cuisine. We still wanted to try it because of a friend's recommendation. 9 course menu. One course, the porcini mushrooms were not available. We were then told at the table that chanterelles would be served instead. Oh well. Personally, I felt that all the courses lacked the taste wow factor. No sophistication. That's what I expect from a 2-star kitchen. Rather normal, good ingredients in an unimaginative combination. Also mediocre in appearance. We were then told that the cook herself preferred to go to a horse show with her daughter rather than cook. The sommelier was very nice. Wine list large. Very expensive. (Markup too exaggerated) ...it's just quick money. But we knew that beforehand. My personal opinion: definitely not 2 stars. I've had worlds better 2-star meals.
Food TOP / Wine advice FLOP
The food is a real experience. The courses are beautifully presented and it is a true work of art from course to course. The garden is unique and very cozy. There is really nothing to complain about the food. It is a real spectacle. From A to Z! There is a lot of potential for improvement in terms of service. The serving staff don't really convey the courses. In this league, storytelling is part of it. Unfortunately, that is completely missing. Unfortunately, you don't always understand the service staff either... The worst, however, was the sommelier. He really missed his job. Tanja Grandits really needs a new one who can keep up with her culinary skills.
Outstanding gourmet experience
On the occasion of our wedding anniversary, we spent a wonderful evening with an outstanding flavor menu at Tanja Grandits. We enjoyed the evening from the first to the last second. The main course with summer bock and raspberry brioche is one of the top 10 dishes we have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. The concept of the play of colors in each course is really successful and sometimes very surprising, but always at the highest level and an explosion of taste on the palate. Not only the cuisine is worth mentioning and praise, but also the relaxed, friendly and warm service. Here you can also joke and laugh with the guests and there is time for the occasional exchange, especially with the summer chef. We are adding some photos of the 9-course flavor menu. We will definitely come back!
Not taken seriously as a vegetarian
The reception was arrogant, the flowers on the table were wilting. When we asked for the vegetarian menu instead of the normal menu that was presented to us, the waiter said it was the same. Only after we insisted for the third time did we receive the vegetarian menu, which was very different, although not presented in the same way as the non-vegetarian menu, but as a small A5 leaflet. As a vegetarian, we felt belittled. But Mrs. Grandis has published a vegetarian cookbook. We stood up and left the restaurant and were warmly welcomed and served a short time later in the Fiorentina.
Atmosphere not on par with cuisine
We were greeted at the front entrance and without any option, were seated outside on the terrace. The terrace itself was spacious and beautiful but: 1)The summer heatwave made it difficult to enjoy without being completely drenched in sweat by the end of the meal. Others had similar problems and were left fanning with the menu card and alike. This could have been anticipated. 2)Even more disruptive, the frequent and loud tram noise interrupted many of our conversations. Although the restaurant is not at fault, one can imagine that this should be addressed and corrected. We are loud people and usually don't mind being in a lively area, but this was too much. The dishes were well prepared, there was a constant theme that the color of the food items were carefully matched for each plate which was visually appealing but the taste is somewhat conservative, don't expect a wow effect. What came off as aggressive marketing however was the drinks. The waiter(s) would consistently propose and pour different chilled wine (hard to refuse due to the heat) without informing about the price. Already the menu itself is a splurge and now with ~30 CHF per glass, the tally at the end came up a lot more than expected.
