Exquisite! Such a lovely spot for a birthday dinner.
Highly recommend the green jackfruit rendang, brussels sprouts, empress rise, banh mi roti, and chili lime aubergine. The garlic noodles and ninh binh clay pot rice were also delicious, but not as memorable or distinctive. Definitely a pricy meal, but worth it for a special occasion--the experience and service were top notch!

Yum!! I came with a group for a birthday dinner and left full and happy. We started with drinks for the table - a glass of brut rose for me, while others opted for the signature gin&tonic, a regular Hendricks gin&tonic, and a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. For appetizers, we ordered the salt & pepper calamari, banh mi roti, and vegan avocado spring rolls. All three were absolutely amazing and came with incredible dipping sauces. We also had the coconut mushroom soup between appetizers and entrees which had a flavorful broth and was packed with mushrooms. The entrees we selected were the wok beef noodles (reminded me of a pad see eew), shaking beef, yellow chicken curry, basil tofu, and clay pot rice. Noodles and basil tofu were the favorites, but all the dishes were great. Next time I may opt for a side of coconut rice instead of the clay pot, but overall was super happy with everything we got. We went a little wild for dessert (we were celebrating!) and had the molten chocolate cake (with a surprise birthday candle!), sticky date cake, pineapple rice pudding, and banana beignets. The date cake was absolutely the winner among the group, but again you really can't go wrong. Portion sizes as Tamarine are generally smaller. Our group of 5 (admittedly hearty eaters) walked away without any leftovers and only felt that the dessert order was excessive - the entrees did amount to a lot of food, but nothing unmanageable.

We've been coming here yearly since my cancer diagnosis, treatment, surgery and recovery. It's a bit pricey but a worthy experience and a wonderful place to celebrate. It's a class act. Our most recent visit was most enjoyable. Our server was personable, professional and top notch. We come in November when it's chilly outside and our meal selection always warms us. We laugh because we've been seated in the same seat each time we've been and feel as if it's meant to be. Flavors jump out and tickle the senses. We'll be back in November. Can't wait.

Its a shame when a great cuisine strays from its roots to create worldly cuisine so much is lost and often too little is gained. So is the case for Tamarine The crepe (referred to as tacos) appetizer worked well flavors were nice. However, we made the mistake of ordering two main dishes that were that just did not work. The duck was overcooked and way over salted ...there was little or no flavor on the plate...the Salmon had lost all touch with Vietnamese food and did not work - and it was costly. Perhaps it was our fault for the way we ordered. If you go stick with the Vietnamese-like dishes you may have a chance at a more star experience.
Be the first to ReplySo good.
The shaking beef was superb - tender juicy and flavorful. Service was great and ambiance is upscale - along with the price you paid for. Haha.
Be the first to ReplyMy husband and I hosted 3 friends for dinner here.
The entire evening was excellent. The cocktails were off the hook. The wine list is extensive, with lots of options for all price range. The waiters are efficient, knowledgeable and not overly friendly. The food is outstanding. Excellent vegan options available so our friends had excellent choices. My favorite was the lemongrass sea bass and the tamarind prawns. The rice pudding was outstanding. Definitely going to return, glad this treasure of a dining experience is close to our home.
Be the first to ReplyThe food here is delicious and beautiful.
High quality for sure because the taste is there. I love the taro root rolls, the shaking beef. I was confused however when we got the tuna tartare. It looked more like poke, but was still OK. It was definitely not tuna tartare however. The lamb chops are delicious but too tough for me. Medium rare is probably better to cook instead of medium. I'll always come back!

Will be going back soon with family. Will definitely recommend it to a friend.

We showed up without a reservation and they bent over backwards to seat us. Initially at the shelf at the end of the bar and then to the bar. The food and drinks are great, as is the service. The only thing I can say that was disappointing were the shrimp and pork spring rolls. Lettuce, noodles, pork and shrimp. No basil, cilantro, chives. basically flavorless. Everything else we had, shaken beef, Tamarind shrimp, curry long beans, papaya salad, were fabulous.
Be the first to ReplyThe food at Tamarine is great and super yummy.
Green curry is my go to but I loved the long beans and avocado rolls for lunch. They were very accommodating of the fact we were on a tight schedule, and delivered all the food promptly!

My favorite restaurant in Bay Area. Highly recommend this place and the service is amazing.

5 stars for food, service and ambiance! We were here to celebrate one of my best bud's belated birthday, who has wanted to try Tamarine "forever".- Sunrise in Hanoi ($22): I'm a sucker for a cool looking drink and sunrise in Hanoi is just that. Gimmicky with the bubble, and after that pops, you realize the glass is only half full. What was there was tasty though. 5/5- Spiced tamarita ($15): My friend loves tamarind so this was an easy choice. Well balanced and delicious. 5/5- Tuna tartare ($23): Fresh, perfectly seasoned and the wonton chips were super crispy. A very nice start. 5/5- Clay pot cod ($29): Sweet, moist and tender. This was a winner. 5/5- Coconut spiced chicken ($31): The only think we thought was "ok". Lightly fried chicken, we didn't pick up the coconut part. I'll hand it to the chef on the moist white meat though. 3/5- Chile-lime aubergine ($15): MUST GET! Lightly fried Japanese eggplant with fried julienned green onions on top. The two of us polished off this side dish. 5/5- Vietnamese coconut tapioca ($12): Light, a bit sweet and a bit tart, this was a great end to the meal. 5/5Jose was our server and he was fantastic! I ordered the sunrise in Hanoi drink that comes with a bubble atop*. It was delivered and promptly burst after being set on our table. I mentioned to him that I was sad I couldn't take a photo before it burst and he went and got the bubble shooter and made a new one for me, table side! It's a bit pricy here. We didn't go overboard and it still was approx $100/pp. There's also a 4% employer mandate fee tacked onto the bill. Reservations on Yelp.-------------------*We theorized that the servers hate when people order this bubble drink. We witnessed one server in the midst of delivering it to his table and it popping before he got there. The look on his face said it all...

Amazing food and service! I ordered the spring rolls, and the cod and it was unforgettable. I would come back here in a heartbeat, though it's on the pricier side. Also, make reservation ahead even on the weekday

1-liner: Upscale Vietnamese fusion restaurant with diverse colorful dishes, largely upended by exorbitant pricing and rushed service. Time: 6pm on a Friday.Service: Food to table within 10-15 minutes. Servers were nice, but felt rushed. The party of 4 next to us had to leave within 1h45m due to overbooking tables :( Menu:~Starters~Salt & pepper calamari: 5/5 - crispy calamari with a green curry sauce that makes the flavor pop. Banh mi roti: 3/5 - nothing to write home about. A little soggy.Papaya salad: 4/5 - our choice of fiber for the evening. Refreshing and crunchy. ~Entrees~Tamarine prawns: 3.5/5 - prawns were massive, juicy, and tasty. Sauce was overpowering, had to take some off.Shaking beef: 4/5 - nice rendition of a classic Vietnamese dish. Beef slightly charred, cooked medium rare. Could have used more spice.Wok beef noodles: 2/5 - too sweet. Did they pour brown sugar in this? Have found better beef versions in hole-in-the-wall spots.~Dessert~ Coconut tapioca: 4/5 - really well-made pudding with sorbet to top it off. Coconut blended really well, but mango did not.Banana beignets: 5/5 - banana filling that melts in your mouth, paired with a perfect scoop of ice cream. A must-order.Price: $50-70 pp just for food. +15-30 pp for drinks/dessert. Overpriced 25%.Vibe: Classy but not formal. Dress what you want but people tend to be in business casual. Nice for an anniversary/special date night.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service and great food.

We were walking by and looking for a place to eat, Tamarine was nice and we were seated right away. We really liked the crispy rice and salmon appetizer, and the shaking beef and garlic noodles were really good too.
Be the first to ReplyFavorite restaurant in Palo Alto! Been 20+ times now.
.. never disappointed. Amazing menu and service.
Be the first to ReplyWent here with a friend on a Friday night around 8pm.
There was no private table available so we sat at the communal table. We ordered the black cod in a clay pot, Brussel sprouts and Tamarine taste with a serving of coconut rice. The tamarine taste is a very tasty platter and I love the nice scent of the coconut rice (visually appealing too!). The Brussel sprouts and cod are just ok in my mind. This meal is about $50 each.
Be the first to ReplyWent with a friend with high expectations.
The service and atmosphere was great. However, the pho that we ordered were just kinda off. The broth was somehow very heavy on pepper. And it was not a cheap bowl too.I'm usually not a customer that comments much about 'priceyness' of things but my experience for this visit was just not quite worth what I paid for. I think I would find another occasion to give it a 2nd try so it's not too biased.
