Ted's Grill (Historic) Santa Monica Reviews from The Last Year
Below average delivery
Disappointed in our meals- garlic mashed came out cold, dry and in small portions. Broccoli was undercooked and rolls dried out. It was very busy with large parties and our service seemed very rushed. Salmon and filet were cooked fine but work needed on the complete meal
We had a delightful experience! It was brunch time, so
We had a delightful experience! It was brunch time, so they had their Brunch Menu as well as their regular menu which you are able to order from. They have a free dedicated parking lot available. There was a sign out displaying hours from 11AM-4PM. I'm guessing that it's only available via Valet after 4PM? I'd say the service & free parking (when we came) were worthy of 5 stars! However, I would give the food maybe 3.5-4 stars. I can't consume oysters much any more, but I'm thinking they probably would have prodded me to give them that last star! Walking inside, it has kind of a modern diner type of feel to it. Maybe it's just East Coast vibes? Not sure. We started with the Chowda' Sampler, then had the Jonah Crab Cake, Monkey Bread, and I ate the Live Sea Urchin. We then got the Black Cod with Blistered Snap Peas. This dish was our least favorite, although it wasn't bad. We ended our meal with the Boozy Brûlée and Ice Cream. We really enjoyed our meal, the service, and the atmosphere! The Chowda' Sampler includes three different types of chowder; creamy New England, tomato-based Manhattan, and buttery Rhode Island Clear. Hubby's favorite was the Manhattan while mine was the New England. The Rhode Island chowder seemed way too buttery for us, just not our preference. Those little house-made oyster crackers were seemingly dense, but they held up their crunch in the chowda' - I really liked that!! It was great to sample each one, I'm glad they have this option. These two dishes were ok (Crab Cake & Black Cod), but we probably wouldn't get them again. The Jonah Crab Cake was cooked well and came with a side of sauce and a slaw. It is one large crab cake, about the size of a pre-cooked hamburger patty. For $29, I think it is a little pricey. The Grilled Wild Black Cod from California (we chose the Herb Crust on it) with a side of Blistered Snap Peas. We really liked the Snap Peas! The Black Cod was served with the skin side down. I thought that was a no-no?!? I was sad because I wasn't able to eat the crispy skin. We both really enjoyed the Monkey Bread! Mmmm!! The inner pieces were moist and soft! The outer pieces were a bit overcooked (dry) for me. I'm always in the mood for Uni! I got the Live Santa Barbara Sea Urchin and it didn't disappoint! It's served with buttered toasts which I didn't eat. I like to eat my Uni as a stand-alone item. If you like the strong taste of Bourbon in your dessert, then the Boozy Brûlée is for you! Beware! The Boozy Brûlée is made with Four Roses Bourbon, and is so very booze forward in taste! I got a scoop of the Limoncello Sorbet and it was packed with tartness. A spoonful of that would've been a great refreshing palate cleanser!! I thought a scoop of it was a little too much for me. Hubby had the Butterscotch Ice Cream. This is one of Michael Cimarusti's restaurants (as is Providence), so take the pricing into consideration. The service was remarkable. Our server kept checking on us and we kept ordering more food, lol! She also asked us when we'd like our items to come out. That was a big plus! It really annoys me when everything is plopped on the table at nearly the same time. We like to enjoy our food in a relaxed time-frame! I'm glad we tried this place! I was hoping for the Hokkaido Scallop Dog to still be on the menu, but sadly, it wasn't. I still prefer my Providence experience food-wise over Connie & Ted's.
Dear Connie and Ted's, I've eaten here four times since
Dear Connie and Ted's, I've eaten here four times since you've been open and truly want to like it. Originally from Massachusetts / RI boarder, I often get the those Aunt Carries chowder, clam cake, and steamer cravings. While I appreciate the fact that you're trying to do New England eats, this doesn't do it for me. The Good: -Service is always on point and the bread is very good. The OK: - The white chowder was just "OK". The Bad: -Steamers were just ick. Too much onion and garlic in the boil, the color of the shell was black, the cleaning broth was so salty, too chewy (had to spit them out), and flavorless. -The clam cakes were like bricks and literally inedible and clam bits on the outside were so hard I nearly broke a tooth!! -Onion rings were so greasy. Not going back...bummer.
Had a great dinner there last night.
While food was wonderful, Donovan, our waiter, was the stand out of the evening. Truly the most well-versed waiter in terms of menu knowledge I've ever had and so skilled in his ability to communicate the food. The whole table agreed! Donovan! Donovan! Donovan!
Ok, I admit it.
When C&T first opened I wrote a scathing review. I have now been back a few times since Covid and they have changed. First when I drove up the valet Parker opened the passenger door to help the lady out. Now when did you ever see that in LA? Second our dinner waiter was fun and enjoyable. I found him worth the double tip. Third the dinner was excellent. Hey, good food, good attitude, good time. I rate the revised Connie & Ted a first class experience!
This place looks like some regular street side diner/cafe
This place looks like some regular street side diner/cafe from the outside, but WOW the kitchen delivers on an entirely different level! We came for a late brunch on a Sunday (1-2pm?) I was able to find a parking spot in the very tiny lot, but others had to street park, so keep the parking logistics in mind when timing your commute. We ordered a dozen oysters to share for the table and they provided us with a variety of different kinds from different locations which was great to not just have the same thing over and over. The highlight was definitely the Maine Lobster Croque Connie. OMG, they were generous with the lobster, the sauce was to die for. It was so savory, I couldn't get enough. When it came out it looked so big I thought there was no way I could finish it, but in the blink of an eye it was gone! Definitely my highest recommendation is the Croque Connie! We also got a couple of cocktails, I don't remember which ones but both were too sweet for my preference.
This place was delicious! Most weho places do not live up
This place was delicious! Most weho places do not live up to the hype but this one does. I got the salmon hash and it was delicious. I went for Sunday brunch and this is the perfect spot for brunch. The ambiance is upscale with sailor/beach touches. Great ambiance overall. And they have a parking lot! Will definitely be back.
Visited during Dine LA and loved the food and the vibes.
Great service, need to go back. They are always busy so recommend reservations!
A perfectly wonderful evening.
First time trying this place. Got a reservation a week in advance and they ended up seating us at a spacious booth for two, just inside near the patio space. Our server was extremely knowledgeable, from descriptions of the wine selections to the chef special's of the day - he went into great detail and knew a lot about the menu. Some of the best oysters we've ever had (chef's selection) and for the mains - we had the rockfish and lobster roll; both were absolutely divine! Got a bottle of the Sancerre wine to split, which was the perfect pairing. And don't sleep on the sides - we got the wilted spinach and potato salad which were both full of flavor and very delicious. We made sure to save room for dessert and got the whoopie pie. Fresh and fluffy, the perfect end to our meal. Also wanted to mention that our busser was very kind, checked in on us regularly, and always made sure our table was cleared and cleaned. A social, comfortable, yet high quality place with expert service. We were extremely impressed! Very excited to go back and try the rest of the menu!!
Delicious, delightful, and fun! Best New England clam
Delicious, delightful, and fun! Best New England clam chowder I've found. Love their shrimp pasta, and lobster roll (and fries!). They also have an excellent espresso martini and hitachino's nest white ale in bottles. Everyone is very sweet and I always look forward to my next visit!
Connie, Ted, I would like to thank you both for a beautiful
Connie, Ted, I would like to thank you both for a beautiful meal, delicious beverages, and exquisite desserts. The service was fantastic and friendly on every level. Oysters? Amazing! Grilled Lobster? Beyond words! Mac & Cheese? Possibly the best in LA without bacon in it (and we order it everywhere it's on the menu). Spinach and bacon? My mouth is watering at the memory. Onion Rings? Not so great, but who cares it's a seafood restaurant, why was I ordering onion rings? Mezcal drinks, tequila drinks, bourbon drinks? All delicious and unique without being too fruity or under boozed. Now the desserts... when I tell you that the old fashioned donuts and Sundae Funday were to die for, I mean that I am writing this post posthumously and I want this read at my funeral, and both were phenomenal and balanced their own sweet and savoriness perfectly. Maybe 1/4 or a 1/3 less expensive than a similar meal at most good places around Los Angeles. Mwah!
Good Food, Good Value
Ted’s was right next to our hotel, and after traveling all day, we were just happy to have a restaurant we didn’t have to drive to. Basically, we just wanted something relatively fast and cheap so we could go back to our room and crash. Ted’s was perfect for that. It was the middle of the dinner rush, but we only had to wait a couple minutes for a table. All of the staff were very friendly, and the restaurant was very nice inside. The food was solid, and the prices were fair. Overall, a really good experience. We definitely recommend. -The PowerTrippers
The perfect Ted’s Montana Grill evening!
When we walked in, Trey greeted us and we were immediately seated at the bar. We wanted to watch the SEC tournament and he check with bar guests and immediately set it to the channel. Great service!
I know what I’m getting
Ted’s is always consistent and pretty good. The only item I would avoid on the menu is the chopped salad. It watery, soggy, and fairly tasteless and uninviting. Salmon, potroast, burgers all good.
Eat here fantastic
Fabulous everything Food great staff friendly and wonderful Environment great Onion rings the best ever Want to go back tonight
OMG best bison!
Wait would have been longer than expected, but we opted to sit at the bar and order dinner and drinks there. Granted, it’s valentine’s eve, but we’re traveling and didn’t really think about it until we were told wait time up to 1 hour, so to the bar we went! Justin and Lauren were excellent bartenders and servers! Hubby had bison brisket and I had a beef blue creek (blue cheese and bacon) burger, both prepared to perfection! Beers were very good and I highly recommend the Huckleberry mule! Sitting at the bar gives the opportunity to meet locals and everyone was very friendly and helpful with our questions! Will definitely make this a stop when traveling through!
Ted's is Going Downhill
Has really went down hill. Last two times we went they messed up our orders. We took out of town quests during football season and two of them got the wrong dishes. We gave it another try in December and our food was not cooked properly for two of the three of us. Ted's has been one of favorites for years but the service and quality of food has got so bad we are not going back anytime soon.
Don’t go!
Told 30 minutes for table, took 1:20. Food was ok at best. Broccoli was disgusting—not edible. How can you mess up broccoli…they did. Overall I’d never go back. Horrible.
Disappointing Visit at Ted”s
I stopped by for an early dinner. It was during shift change so maybe that was the problem. The waitstaff was very good and attentive. The food was very disappointing. The burger was served at room temperature and the fries were grease-ladened. I’m hoping this isn’t the norm.
New York Strip Was Big Disappointment.
Ted's is my go-to for dinner with out of town friends and I have had many excellent meals here. On this visit I deviated from my usual choice, the bison ribeye , because it was I believe $47 and that was a little more than I wanted to pay. I chose the 12oz. Angus Beef strip for $33 instead. I was taken aback when the steak was presented. It was about 1/2 inch thick which made cooking it medium rare as I ordered pretty much impossible. It was actually about medium well. As I ate the steak, there was at least 4oz of fat around the edge that had not been trimmed. Needless to say, the steak simply was a big disappointment. The baked potato, asparagus and apple crumb dessert were top notch. Why didn't I send the steak back? They were super busy and I just bit the bullet.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!

So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res

Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
