Wayfare Tavern San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year
San Francisco charm and history ambience
Best part was the ambience - San Francisco charm in architecture. A bit pricey for options (why a 4 vs 5) though everything tasted great - from soups to salads to brunch dishes. Try to sit downstairs in a booth.

The oysters were delicious and so was was the pasta with golden chanterelles. However, I spend $40 on tagliatelle and they only give me 3 pieces of mushrooms in the whole dish? Would not go back. Terrible value :/. Service was great, etc etc but not worth the cost.
I thought.
..totally overhyped and overpriced. The space was packed, which may have led to a misunderstanding with our table. We got there early and checked in, yet we had to wait until they realized that our table was available. From there, the service was much better until they gave me the wrong dish. They realized that I was given the wrong dish...when I told them and then shortly after I got my salmon. The dish was small and was OK. The side order of brussels sprouts were very good. I just don't think I would go back for a mediocre experience, service and food.
Great, friendly service, and lovely ambiance, but food
Great, friendly service, and lovely ambiance, but food needs work these days. For instance, Eggs Benedict should not taste overwhelmingly of vinegar (mine did) and the salads could be fresher. I'll still return, though, because of the friendly staff and because I'm hoping my recent experience is just evidence of working out some post-pandemic kinks.
Me and two of my closest friends met up for dinner here.
Let me say - this is just a staple in my restaurant rotation in San Francisco. Oysters, Tuna, Steaks, Chicken, Burgers. Can't go wrong.
My girlfriend and I were looking to get a bite to eat
My girlfriend and I were looking to get a bite to eat before starting our day of exploring San Francisco, and she found the Wayfare Tavern on Yelp. We are so glad we stopped in. The ambience is like and old-school tavern, with polished wood and brass, as well as a maitre'd to greet you. We took seats at the bar, and were very impressed with the list of beers they had on tap. I had the Love Hazy NE IPA from Almanac, which went wonderfully with the turkey avocado club sandwich I ordered. My girlfriend ordered the Evening Whispers Belgian dubbel from Laughing Monk to go with her fried chicken sandwich. The bartender was very friendly, patient and knew much about the beers. As we sat down, we were served fresh, puffy bread that practically melted in my mouth. There were also individual bowls of kettle-cooked potato chips that were made onsite. Once we tried our respective sandwiches, we decided to trade each other half a sandwich so we could enjoy both. To call their chicken sandwich a "chicken sandwich" really didn't do it justice. It was tender, juicy, and served on a delicious ciabatta bun with fennel slaw and a perfect aioli. It was a delicious and refreshing way to start our day. I'm so glad we found this place!
Wayfare is a great dining experience.
Classy but not too fussy. You can come and get great fried chicken. Or for a big celebration (and get great fried chicken). Also hits a very good price point. Nice sized portions. Very good staff. Everything tasted good. Few surprises - just good food, white tablecloths and a fine dining experience.

Came here for dinner before a show and was nothing short of impressed. The staff, atmosphere, and food were all amazing. I got the burger and my wife got the pasta. We started with the tuna tartare and cauliflower, and also had some mixed drinks. Can't wait to come back.
Let's talk Deviled Eggs.
Two of us ate here on a business trip. We ordered the Deviled Eggs as an appetizer. First of all, there are 6. They are also pretty loaded. They stack the yolk "mixture" pretty high. Which is usually great, I do enjoy a good sized serving. But for the 2 of us it was too much. You can definitely taste the truffle oil. Which I enjoyed at first but then felt it was too much. I honestly prefer more of a mustard flavor. Which this had a light mustard flavor, but the truffle oil flavor was a little overpowering. So if you have a table of 4, want something different, and a little decadent then you will like these. But I would have stopped after 1 and then politely passed so the others at your table can indulge. You will need the room for the main serving.
I just left there, had lunch.
I was a little down because of the rain but Wayfare picked me up. The hostess, Carolina , the perfect greeter. Wade D., awesome service very attentive-we thank you! This place is well thought out. Burgers were perfect. Fried Chicken was just a tad dry but who can complain about the pairing with that batter-not greesy at all! We should have ordered a few sides to complement the dishes. Seared tuna salad, perfect. (Wade D., I promise to return a better customer, I was real tired, ready for bed after a long flight. You were on-it!) You definitely have an awesome spot & I will be back mid afternoon for that meal & wine soon! Epic, would suggest going to. Btw. The chocolate cake & donuts; I was going to buy a dozen of them things. Next stop: the Dessert store on Union Square-same owner.
Excellent food.
Went with a group and everything we got was good. The pork chop and the beef check stroganoff was amazing. The fried chicken and the devil eggs were good, but not the best. The service was also pretty good.Great place for a small party, but not good for kids or a party of more than 4
Wonderful Service
The service was the best we have experienced in any SF restaurant. Food was average but wonderful wine. The atmosphere could use a bit of a refresh from Ken Fulks. Tables are elbow to elbow close. Host worked hard to accommodate seating requests and provided consistent updates while waiting at bar. We came on a Saturday night and the place was just busy enough not to feel overwhelmed.
Great lunch, excellent service
I was here about five years ago and went back for a repeat visit, and really glad I did. The Wayfare did not disappoint. I had the Tavern Burger and it is one of the best burgers you can find The guy sitting next to me at the bar had the Pastrami sandwich special and raved about it. Both times I’ve been here the food and service have been amazing. This is on my places to go again for a repeat visit
Great restaurant
Booked last minute and so pleased we did. Food was excellent, service was exceptional, we were looked after by Alvetta, what an asset to the restaurant, she answered all our questions, not only the food but about area.
Enjoyable lunch
Nice business lunch in the Wayfare Tavern in the financial district. We sat outside which was pleasant. Food was good as was the service.
Great burger, lovely setting
Actually just wanted a burger whilst in the area and my husband picked it out - expected a bar so bit surprised to find an upscale, business dinner type setting! Beautiful restaurant and staff were super attentive. Wasn’t expecting how delicious the burger was - satisfied that craving and ended up being a great last meal of our San Francisco vacation
Super tasty, all perfect
The dishes were excellent, the waitress super kind : all was perfect from A to Z. We tried the mussels, the burger and the Caesar Salad. Wonderful
Restaurants in SF are either Chiptole or this
Great place for a business meeting, service was good, food tasty and I had some good service despite the food taking a little bit long to come out, overall lovely place to have a business Linch would recommend
Great ambience
Attentive and friendly service. Prices are a bit high for the fare offered. Shrimp cocktail was perfect in every way. The fried chicken was cooked well and very juicy but lacked adequate seasoning. The cauliflower was nothing short of spectacular with great flavor. Wow! Deserts were OK.
Menu 9.5, Service 10.0!
Casual yet upscale bistro, with very interesting items. We started with Deviled Eggs and Burrata Toast, both had tasty twists and our table loved them. The Burger and the Fried Chicken seem to be the favorites so we dived into those - very good. The menu had enticing sides but the meals themselves were quite generous in portion. The restaurant is quite noisy so not best for intimate meal and the wine list is rather pricey. The highlight was our server Ginger, who was knowledgeable, personable and a delight. She’s the type of employee that makes customers make a return visit, which we will!
Must eat!
Great gourmet food! We went for lunch. Came back for dinner. Great staff and service. Had the club sandwich with salad fries etc. Also burger and other in the evening.

The main page will typically show you restaurants rankings based on city. I am new too and its been mostly guess work and trying the ones that are high ranking. I right now am sticking to top 10's but still waiting to hit that first sale.
